이 논문의 목적은 윤흥길의 『아홉 켤레의 구두로 남은 사내』 연작에서 드러나는 마조히즘적 권력의 양상을 분석하고, 이를 통해 연작의 주인물인 권씨의 변화와 그 의미를 논의해보고자 하였다. 연작 전체에서 권씨는 반복적으로 죽음에 가까운 체험들을 한다. 권씨의 죽음은 술집 작부, 자본가, 여직공을 매개로 하여 반복되는데, 이러한 죽음을 통해 권씨는 다시 태어나는 체험을 반복적으로 하는 한편, 다른 계급과의 동일시를 꿈꾼다. 이 과정에서 그는 복종과 헌신을 통해 타자와의 간격을 줄이고자 한다. 그러나 마조히즘의 논리 안에서 마조히스트가 어떤 역할을 맡는다 하더라도 그것이 궁극적으로 주체의 변화를 의미하지는 않는다. 따라서 연작 내에서 그의 죽음 반복은 그들과의 거리를 근본적으로 없애지 못한다. 연작에서 권씨는 노동 운동의 투사이자 소시민으로, 자존심이 강한 지식인이면서 동시에 여성 지배자에게 복종하는 인물로, 다양한 정체성을 갖는다. 이러한 권씨의 특징은 마조히즘의 논리 안에서 이항대립적인 가치들이 ‘차이의 부재’라는 방식을 통해 마조히스트에게 공존할 수 있다는 점에서 주목된다. 이러한 관점에서 『아홉 켤레』 연작에서 권씨가 여러 가지 수난을 거쳐 모순된 정체성들을 갖추는 것은 곧 마조히스트로서의 권씨가 실현시키고자 하는 꿈의 형상화이다. 그러한 꿈은 주체와 타자, 서로 다른 계급 간의 연대는 ‘불가능하지 않다’라는 지식인 인물의 ‘부인(否認 Disavowal)’ 안에서 작동한다는 점에서 한계를 갖는다.
This paper analyzes the aspect of the power of masochism revealed in the series of “The Man Who Was Left as Nine Pairs of Shoes” of Yoon Heung-gil and tried to discuss the change of Kwon's main character in the series. Throughout the series, Kwon repeatedly experiences close to death. Kwon's death is repeated through the hostess, the capitalist, and a factory female worker. Through this death, Kwon repeatedly experiences the rebirth. And he dreams to be identified with another class. In the process, he want to reduce his distance from the other through obedience and dedication. However, whatever role a masochist plays in the logic of masochism, it can not ultimately result in a change of subject. Therefore His death repetition in the series was not able to fundamentally eliminate distance from them. In the series, Kwon is a labor activist and at the same time a petit bourgeois, and has a diverse identity, such as a prideful intellectual as well as a subordinate to a female ruler. Through the method of 'The absence of difference' which is the logic of masochism, binational opposing values can coexist with the masochist, which shows the characteristics of Kwon. From this point of view, it is a dream that Kwon, as a masochist, wants to realize that Kwon has suffered various passages and reveals contradictory identities in the series of “The Man Who Was Left as Nine Pairs of Shoes.” Such a dream has its limitations. The reason is that the solidarity between the different classes takes place in the 'disavowal' of the intellectual who is 'not impossible'.
