본 연구는 본 연구는 봅슬레이 종목의 경기력 성장배경을 고찰해보고자 진행되었다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 봅슬레이 종목의 발전 과정에서 중요한 역할을 담당한 강광배를 대상으로 구술 자료를 채록하고 주변인 인터뷰와 언론, 봅슬레이 연맹으로부터 관련 문헌자료를 통해 자료를 보완하였다. 본 연구는 Lee Se Joong et al.(2009)연구에 연장선상에 있으며, 봅슬레이가 독자적인 종목으로 구축된 후 경기력이 향상되기 시작했던 2009년도 이후부터 다루고 있다. 본 연구를 통해 확인된 봅슬레이 종목의 경기력 성장 배경에있어서 중요한 사실들을 정리해보면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 우리나라 최초의 봅슬레이 종목 국제대회 입상은2008년 1월 14일 열린 2008 아메리카컵 2차 대회 4인승 동메달이었다. 어려운 환경 속에서 이룩한 성과였기 때문에, 언론과 매스컴에 소개되었고 이는 국내에봅슬레이 종목을 알리는 기폭제가 되었다. 둘째, 2010 년 밴쿠버 동계올림픽경기에 봅슬레이 4인승이 출전한 것은 한국 최초의 출전이었으며, 이는 종목 발전의초석이 되었다. 셋째, 스타트 전문 훈련장 건설에 따라 전문기술훈련이 가능하게 되었고 선수선발 방식또한 과학적으로 발전하게 되었다. 넷째, 한국체육대학교 썰매부 창단은 우수한 봅슬레이 선수들을 양성, 배출하는데 많은 도움이 되었으며, 국가대표 봅슬레이선수 구성에 많은 영향을 미쳤다. 다섯째, 2018년 평창동계올림픽 유치 성공은 중앙연맹의 재정적 확충을가져다주게 되었고, 이를 통해 훈련개선, 장비구입, 지도자 구성에 많은 영향을 주었다.
This study was conducted to study the background of increased competitive power of bobsleigh. For this purpose, we recorded oral statements from Kang Kwang Bae, who played an important role in the development of bobsleigh, and we used interviews from people around him as well as literature from the media and the bobsleigh federation. This study is an extension of a study by Lee Se Joong et al.(2009) and it addresses the period after 2009, when the competitive power of Bobsleigh increased and it became an independent sporting event. A summary of the important facts in the background of the growth in competitive power of bobsleigh is the following, First of all, Korea’s first participation in an international bobsleigh competition was the second competition of 2008 American Cup for the 4-man bobsleigh, which was held in January 14, 2008, where Korea won the Bronze medal. This was achieved under difficult circumstances, and thus the media introduced bobsleigh to the public and this event was a catalyst in making the event better known. Secondly, the 2010 Vancouver Olympics was where Korea first participated in a 4-man bobsleigh event, and this served as a stepping stone for the development of this event. Third, start training centers were built and thus it enabled specialized skill training, and it resulted in a more scientific selection method of athletes. Fourth, the founding of the sledding team at Korea National Sport University, has helped foster and produce talented Bobsleigh athletes, and it has greatly influenced the composition of Korea’s bobsleigh athletes. Fifth, the bid to host the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics resulted in a financial expansion by the central federation, which greatly influenced improvement in training, purchase of equipment, and composition of leaders.
