본 연구는 김유정 소설의 정체성을 ‘사랑’이라는 관점에서 실핀다. 구체적으로는 작품 속 인물의 관계와 그것이 의미화․서사화 되는 과정을 살펴보았다. 김유정 소설은 사랑의 서사다. 그의 소설 속에는 1930년대 일제 식민지 현실에서 신음하는 우리 민중들의 삶이 고스란히 반영되어 있다. 그 사랑은 구체적으로 먼저, 수직적 관계를 수평적 관계로 전화(轉化)시킨다. 이 수평적 관계에서 인물들은 타인을 이해하고 공감하며 그들을 따스한 연민의 시선으로 바라보게 된다. 더 나아가 이 시선은 서로의 상처를 치유하고 아픔을 주었던 대상을 용서하는 적극적이고 긍정적인 힘의 원동력이 된다. 여기에서 ‘사랑’의 새로운 주체가 탄생하게 되는데 이는 다름 아닌 서로에 대한 자발적 ‘무한책임’을 수행하는 주체다. 김유정 소설은 일견 우스꽝스럽고 재미있지만 그 안에는 슬픔이 녹아있다. 이는 고통스러운 인간의 삶을 이해와 공감, 연민의 시선으로 바라볼 때 느낄 수 있는 작가의 타인에 대한 깊은 사랑의 소산이다.
This study aims to comprehend the identification of Kim Yu-jeong's novel with the keyword “love” and its meaning. Toward that end, the study examined the relationships between the characters and the narrative. Kim Yu-Jeong’s novels are stories of love; his novels reflected the lives of our people groaning under the realities of the Japanese colonial rule of the 1930s. Specifically, love first transforms vertical relationships into horizontal ones; in these relationships, the characters understand and sympathize with others and look at them with warm, compassionate gazes. Furthermore, these gazes become the driving force of positive power to forgive the objects that have healed and hurt each other's wounds. Here, a new concept of love is born, the voluntary, “infinite responsibility” to others. Kim Yu-jeong's novels are at first glance, but there are also deep sadness and devastating pain in them. He presents the deep love of the artist who can feel painful human life but sees it as understanding, sympathy, compassion.
