왕양명은 어린 시절부터 학문의 목적이 聖人됨에 있다고 생각하였다. 그래서 일생동안 배워서 성인이 되고자 노력하였고, 몇 번의 좌절을 겪기도 하지만 스스로 성인됨에 대한 확신을 가지고 성인됨의 방법을 찾았다. 그리고 마침내 용장에서 格物致知의 이치를 깨닫고, 성인됨의 씨앗이 바로 ‘良知’이며, 양지를 실현하면 누구나 성인의 마음을 실현할 수 있다는 聖學論을 완성하였다. 왕양명의 성학론은 시대를 초월하여 인간이면 누구나 致良知를 통해 성인으로서의 삶을 살 수 있다는 가능성을 열어 놓았다는 점에서 현대인에게도 그 가치가 매우 크다고 하겠다. 따라서 본 논문은 왕양명의 聖學論에 대한 이해뿐만이 아니라 오늘을 사는 현대인에게도 어떤 의미가 있는지에 대해서 살펴본 것이다. 왕양명은 마음의 良知가 ‘聖’이고, 聖學은 오직 良知를 실현하는 것일 뿐이다고 말하면서 聖人이 되는 까닭을 순금에 비유하였다. 금이 진짜 순금이 되는 까닭은 분량에 있는 것이 아니라 오로지 순금의 함유량을 온전히 지니고 있어야 하듯이 사람도 순수한 천리와 일치하기만 하면 바로 聖人이 된다고 보았다. 전통적으로 儒家들은 聖人의 학문이 세상에 밝게 드러나지 못할까를 염려하는 우환의식과 세상의 어려운 사람을 구원해주고자 하는 구원의식을 가지고 있다. 왕양명도 세상 사람들이 모두 공리에 빠져 聖學이 밝지 못한 것에 대한 자각과 함께 우환의식과 구원의식을 가지고 致良知의 學으로 聖學을 실현하고자 평생을 狂者로 살았던 것이다. 왕양명은 聖學을 실현하는 방법을 良知의 실현으로 설명하고 있으며, 궁극적으로는 萬物一體의 仁이 실현되는 大同社會로 귀결시키고 있다. 특히 자신의 狂病이 대동사회가 되어야 치유될 수 있다고 하여 聖學의 실현 목표를 大同社會의 실현에 두고 있다. 따라서 왕양명의 聖學論은 오늘날 우리에게 실현가능한 대동사회의 지침서가 될 수 있을 것이다. 孔子는 “1년이면 가능하고, 3년이면 완성된다.”고 하였고, 孟子는 “지금 仁政을 행한다면 백성들이 기뻐하기를 거꾸로 매달린 것을 풀어주는 것과 같을 것이다.”고 하였듯이 왕양명의 聖學論은 오늘날 우리가 다시 대동사회를 실현하는 사상적 근거인 것이다. 이것이 바로 왕양명의 聖學論을 통한 새로운 현실적 가치를 부여하는 일이며, 왕양명의 聖學論을 오늘에 다시 실현해야 할 현대적 의미라고 하겠다.

Wang Yangming(王陽明) believed that the purpose of scholarship was to be a saint since childhood. So he tried to become a saint by learning for a lifetime, and after a few frustrations, he found a way of becoming a saint with the confidence of being a saint. And finally, in Yongjang, he realized the meaning of gaining knowledge by the study of things(格物致知), and the seed of saints is 'Innate Knowing(良知)', and if we realize Innate Knowing(良知), everyone can realize the saint's mind, and he completed the Theory of SeongHak(聖學). Wang Yangming's Theory of SeongHak(聖學) is very valuable to modern people because it opens the possibility that anyone can live a life as a saint through realizing Perform Innate Knowing(致良知), regardless of age. Therefore, this paper not only explains Wang Yangming's Theory of SeongHak(聖學), but also explains what it means to modern people living today. Wang Yangming likened the reason of being a holy man to pure gold, saying that the Innate Knowing(良知) of the mind is 'holy' and the study of saint is only realizing Innate Knowing(良知). As the reason why gold is pure gold is not in quantity, but it should be pure in pure gold, when a man agrees with the reason of pure heaven, he saw that it becomes a holy man. Traditionally, Confucian scholars have a consciousness of anxiety that worries that Theory of SeongHak(聖學) will not be revealed to the world, and will for rescue to save the world's hardest people. Wang Yangming also lived his life as a madman to realize Theory of SeongHak(聖學) as a study of Perform Innate Knowing(致良知) with a consciousness of anxiety and will for rescue with the awareness that all the people in the world falling into the axiom and not good at Theory of SeongHak(聖學). Wang Yangmyong describes the method of realizing Theory of SeongHak(聖學) as the realization of Innate Knowing(良知), and ultimately it is concluded to be Great Harmony society(大同社會), in which virtue of Unity(萬物一體) are realized. Especially, the goal of Theory of SeongHak(聖學) is realized in Great Harmony society(大同社會) because the madness illness can be healed by Great Harmony society(大同社會). Therefore, Wang Yangming's Theory of SeongHak(聖學) can be a guide for Great Harmony society(大同社會) that can be realized for us today. As Confucius said, "It is possible in one year, and it is completed in three years." Mencius said, "If we do benevolent politics now, it will be like giving people back their joy from hanging upside down", Wang Yangming's Theory of SeongHak(聖學) is an ideological basis for us to realize Great Harmony society(大同社會) again today. This is to give new realistic value through Wang Yangming's Theory of SeongHak(聖學), and it is a modern meaning that Wang Yangming's Theory of SeongHak(聖學) needs to be realized again today.
