본 연구의 목적은 영아 놀잇감 관련 문헌을 통해서 어린이집에서 영아에게 제공되는 바람직한 놀잇감의 기준은 무엇인지 이해하고, 이를 기초로 어린이집 현장에서 이해하고 있는 바람직한 영아 놀잇감 실제와 이론 간의 차이를 드러내고, 어린이집이라는 영아보육 환경에서고려해야할 바람직한 영아 놀잇감에 대한 대안을 탐색하는 것이다. 그 결과 첫째, 어린이집에서 제공되는 바람직한 영아 놀잇감은 다양성과 개방성이라는 공통점을 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 바람직한 영아 놀잇감의 다양성 특성은 내용상 놀잇감 ‘종류’의 다양성과 ‘양’의 충분성의 측면, 놀잇감의 외현적 다양성과 의미의 다양성이라는 측면에서 의미상 모순된 차이가있었다. 바람직한 영아 놀잇감 개방성 특성은 놀잇감이 ‘탐색을 유도하고 놀이로 전환될 수있는 매개물’의 속성을 갖는 것으로, 놀잇감 기능의 개방성과 연령별 놀잇감 적합성의 측면, 놀이영역별 분리에 따른 탐색의 개방성과 놀잇감 분리로 인한 탐색 행동 제한이라는 측면에서 의미상 차이를 나타내었다. 둘째, 어린이집에서 제공되는 바람직한 영아 놀잇감의 교육적의미를 1) 다양성의 측면에서, 영아의 탐색행동을 돕는 놀잇감, 몸으로 체험되어 다양한 의미를 만들어내는 놀잇감, 문화와 가치에 대한 다양성을 고려한 놀잇감으로 해석하였고, 2) 개방성의 측면에서, 관계적 체험에 개방적인 놀잇감, 놀이영역에 개방적인 놀잇감으로 해석하였다.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics of desirable infant playthings in child-care centers, to understand how infant playthings in child-care centers differ from the theory, and to explore the alternatives to the desirable infant playthings in child-care centers. For this purpose, I conducted a study related to infant play and playthings. The results were as follows. Firstly, the desirable infant playthings were characterized by the diversity and the openness of playthings. The characteristics of diversity in desirable infant playthings have different meanings in terms of the type and the quantity of playthings and the appearance and the meaning of playthings. The characteristic openness in desirable infant playthings were described as ‘the medium of exploration and play’ and had different meanings in terms of the function of age of playthings and the separation of play area. Secondly, the educational meaning of desirable infant playthings was interpreted as the playthings that helped exploration, those experienced with body thereby, creating the different meanings, and those reflecting the diverse culture and values. Further, the educational meaning of desirable playthings was interpreted as the playthings that had the characteristic of relationship and those opened in play areas.
