2003년 이라크 자유작전 당시, 美 패트리어트에 의해 英 토네이도 항공기가 대방사 미사일(Anti-Radiation Missile)로 오인식별되어 격추된 전사가 있다. 패트리어트를 운용하는 한국에서도 이와 같은 유사 사례가 발생하지 않도록 ‘패트리어트 피아식별율’을 향상시켜 보고자, 6시그마의 DMAIC 프로세스를 활용하여 오인식별율을 줄이는 연구를 실시하였다. 그 결과 패트리어트의 여러 식별 요인들 중 핵심요인 2가지를 개선하여 적용해 본 결과 오인식별율이 감소하였음을 확인하였다.
During the 2003 OIF(Operation Iraq Freedom), the US PATRIOT shot down a British Tornado aircraft because of the misclassification. There is no guarantee that such an accident will not occur in Korea where is operating the PATRIOT. In order to prevent the recurrence of similar fratricide, this study focuses on improving the IFF rate of PATRIOT through the DMAIC process. As a result of the study, it is confirmed that the IFF rate can be improved by applying some improvement plans of passive ID factors. Therefore, if the improvement plans are applied to the current operational environment, it is expected to improve the current PATRIOT IFF rate.
