과학수사 분야는 주로 자연과학 지식과 기술이 사용되기 때문에 화학, 생물학, 물리학 등의 과학 분야와 관련된 지식을 갖고 있을수록 업무에 유리하다. 그러나 우리나라의 경우 현실적으로 일반 경찰관 중에서 개인의 희망 등에 의해서 인사발령을 통해 과학수사요원을 선발하기 때문에 그들의 학위나 그것에 준하는 자격이 과학에 바탕을 두고 있지 않은 경우가 많다. 또한, OJT 방식의 교육이나 경찰 전문 교육기관을 통해서 다양한 과학수사교육이 공급되고 있으나 교육 수요에 비해서 교육 공급이 부족한 상황이다. 본 연구에서는 선진국의 과학수사요원 지원 자격 조건과 선발 방법과의 비교를 통해 우리나라 대학들의 과학수사 인재 양성 환경과 문제점, 경찰 과학수사의 인재 선발 방법의 문제점에 대해서 알아보고 개선방안을 제시하여 과학수사 전문화에 도움이 되고자 한다
Since the crime scene investigation field mainly uses natural science knowledge and technology, it is advantageous to have knowledge related to science such as chemistry, biology, and physics. However, in Korea, many of the ordinary police officers are not based on science because they select personnel for science through the issuance of personnel by the hope of individuals. In addition, various kinds of crime scene investigation education are provided through OJT education or police education institution, but education supply is insufficient compared to education demand. The purpose of this study is to investigate the eligibility and selection methods of crime scene investigators in advanced countries and to propose improvements for specialization of crime scene investigation through viewing the problems of the environment for training talented individuals in universities in Korea and problems of recruitment of crime scene investigators.
