The controller of wind turbines for power production consists of a torque controller and a pitch controller. The blades for large multi-MW wind turbines are getting bigger. Accordingly, the mass moment of inertia ofthe blade is getting larger. So, the bandwidth of the pitch actuator is limited and the appropriate setting of itsbandwidth is very important. In this paper, we investigated an appropriate bandwidth for the pitch actuator ofmulti-MW wind turbines with respect to output power response and how broad it is. We carried out numericalsimulations for a 2 MW wind turbine with a turbulence wind speed and made a quantitative analysis of outputpower response. The bandwidth of the pitch controller was set to 1 rad/s and the rated torque magnitude in thetorque controller was maintained above the rated wind speed. It is recommended to set 13 rad/s for thebandwidth of the pitch controller as this is appropriate when all things like mean output power, standarddeviation of output power, and power dip are considered.
