이 연구의 목적은 시민교육으로서의 지역학 강좌가 지향해야 할 목적과 목표를 세우고 그 내용요소를 제안하는 것이다. 시민성의 구성요소는 시대와 상황에 따라 달라지기 때문에 본 연구에서는 지역민을 대상으로 하는 지역학의 특성을 고려하여 다음과 같은 지역학 강좌의 목표와 내용요소를 제안하였다. 첫째, 지역민으로서의 정체성을 확립한다. 이를 위한 내용요소에는 지역의 사회, 문화, 지리 등에 대한 지식습득과 지역사의 객관적･･비판적 이해, 전통과 정체성의 구별이 포함된다. 둘째, 지역 내에서의 다양성은 물론 인근 지역 또는 다른 문화권과의 관계를 통해 다양성을 이해한다. 여기에는 '다름'을 고유의 가치로 인정하고, 다양성과 정체성의 조화를 이루며, 지역 내･외적 상호관련성을 이해하는 내용요소가 포함된다. 셋째, 함께 살아가는 공동체 의식을 기르고 상호공존의 길을 모색한다. 이 목표의 내용요소로는 상호공존 관계 이해, 의사소통 능력 배양, 공동선의 추구가 해당된다. 제시한 세 가지 목표는 개별적이거나 순차적인 관계가 아니라 유기적이고 순환적인 결합체라는 점에서 상호관련성을 가지고 있다.
The purpose of this study is to suggest content elements of regional studies course as citizenship education and set up goals and objectives. Elements of citizenship depends on the times and ci rcumstances. Thus, thi study considered t he trait of regional studies that target local members. It suggested goals and ob jectives of regional studies course. First, content element is to establish the regional identity of a local member. It includes knowledge about community, culture, geography, etc, objective and critical understanding of local history, distinction between tradition and identity. Second, content element is to understand the diversity in the area as well as the neighboring area. It includes the unique value of ‘difference’, harmony between diversity and i dentity, to understand regional interrelation. Third,content element is to develop a sense of community and find ways to coexist. It includes the understanding of mutual coexistence, development of communicative competence, the pursuing of common good.
