영성은 이론이기 이전에 삶 그 자체이다. 그러므로 영성 교육은 반드시 영성적삶을 사는 부모와 교사를 필요로 한다. 예수님이 능력 있는 교육을 베풀 수 있었던까닭은 그분의 삶이 바리새인들과 달랐기 때문이었다. 즉, 예수님은 행동하기 이전에 하나님과 교제하였고 말하기 이전에 몸으로 실천하셨다. 그 결과 그분의 가르침은 혁신적이었고 뭇 사람들을 변화시킬 만큼 힘이 있었다. 영적 무감각에 빠진 오늘의 어린 자녀들을 예수 그리스도께 인도하여 그들 스스로 생명력 넘치는 삶을살도록 도와주기 위해서는 부모와 교사의 인도가 반드시 필요하다. 문제는 자녀의영성 교육을 위해 가정에서 부모가 이를 행할 수 있는 훈련이 되어있지 않고, 교회에서는 교사가 훈련되어 있지 않다는 것이 영성 교육의 실패의 원인으로 본다. 먼저 훈련되어 있지 않은 부모와 교사는 어린 자녀들에게 또 다른 짐을 지우게 되는우를 범하기 쉽다. 자칫 잘못하면 소경이 소경을 인도하는 꼴이 되고 말 것이기 때문이다(눅 6:39). 영성의 교육적인 의미를 발견하기 위해서는 다양한 연구 방법이 있겠지만, 근래에 많은 관심을 끌고 있는 영성지수 이론을 살피보고, 그 이론을 적용하는 영성 교육을 제기해 본다. 자녀들의 영성 교육을 위해서 영성지수(SQ)에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 인간 만능의 시대, 우주여행까지도 가능케 한 혁신적인 진보들이 있었지만, 정작 인간의 삶은 타락을 염려하는 세상이 되어버렸다. 심리학자들은 기계문명과 물질만능의 풍조가 가정을 파괴하고 마음을 사악하게 만드는 주범이라고 진단하고 있다. 하지만 성경은 이 모든 파괴의 근본적인 원인은 “마음에 하나님 두기를싫어하기” 때문이라고 지적한다. 이런 마음은 악한 영의 지배를 받게 되고 사람의인격이 파괴되게 하는 것이다. “마땅히 행할 길을 아이에게 가르치라 그리하면 늙어도 그것을 떠나지 아니하리라”(잠 22:6)는 말씀을 붙들고 우리 시대의 자녀에게가장 필요한 것인 SQ(spiritual quotient)를 길러주어야 하는 것이다. 오늘 우리의 자녀들은 지나치게 바쁘고 계산이 빠르고, 세속적인 관심에 사로잡혀 있다. 비록 그들이 그 어느 시대보다도 물질적으로 풍족하고 신체적으로 강건해 보인다 할지라도 그들의 내면은 메마르고 공허하며 영적인 생명력을 상실해 가고 있다. 그러므로 그들을 강하게 사로잡고 있는 세속적 삶의 모습을 어떻게 하면그리스도를 닮은 믿음과 소망과 사랑의 실천자의 모습으로 변화되게 할 수 있는가를 우리는 묻고 연구해야 할 과제를 부여받고 있는 것이다. 이는 곧 영성 훈련의 과제인 것이다.
Spirituality is life itself before theory. Therefore, Spirituality education needs parents and teachers who live spiritual lives. The reason Jesus could give a capable education was because his life was different from the Pharisees. Before he acted, Jesus contacted God and practiced himself before he spoke. As a result, his teaching was revolutionary and powerful enough to change the crowd. Parents and teachers are required to support their children to help them live their spiritual lives. However, parents are not allowed to do so at home for the spiritual education of their children. In church, the failure of training teachers is a cause of failure in spiritual education. If they fail, it will be likely that blind men lead blind men (Lk 6:39). There are various methods of research to discover the educational meaning of spirituality. Let’s take a look at the theory of spirituality, which is attracting a lot of attention recently and I offer a spiritual education that applies the theory. Interest in the spirituality index is increasing for the sake of their children’s spiritual education. Psychologists say that the trend of mechanical civilization and materialism is the main culprit of destroying homes and damaging their minds. However, the Bible points out that the root cause of all this destruction is “ hate God.” This mind is ruled by evil spirits and destroys the character of a man. “Teach the child to act properly, and he will not leave it when he grows old (Prv 22:6). As the Bible says, we need to foster SQ, which is the most necessary thing for our children. Our children are now overly busy, calculating, and preoccupied with worldly concerns. Although they appear to be physically rich and physically sturdy than ever before, their inner bodies are decaying, empty, and lost their spiritual vitality. Therefore, it is our challenge to turn them into Christ, the hope and faith of Christ and the practice of love. This is the task of the spiritual training.
