This paper investigates the diachronic evolution of the verbs of “Pick up” (“Shi”(拾), “Jian”(撿/揀), “Duo(掇)”). The “Pick up” type verbs was investigated by using the method of the combination of diachronic and synchronic. In ancient time, “Shi”(拾), “Duo”(掇) was existed. “Shi”(拾) was the main used from ancient time to Ming Dynasty. After Yuan and Ming Dynasty, “Duo”(掇) disappeared. The new word “Jian”(撿/揀) emerged in Ming Dynasty and “shi”(拾) replaced with it from Qing Dynasty. Through dialect investigation, proved that “Jian”(撿/揀) is dominant word in modern time. This paper also with formation of synonymy coordinate disyllables as the object of the research, investigated the reason why synonymy coordinate disyllables a few existed in premodern time. In addition, researched the reason why the words for the concept of “Pick up” often collocate with “Qi”(起), “Qu(取)”, the reason they can't often enter to “Qude”(取得) double object construction “S+V+O₁+O₂”.
