「重要」「大事」「大切」のそれぞれの特徴をまとめると次の通りである。 「重要」「大事」「大切」の共通の意味は、必要で、重んずべきさまの意味であるが、「重要」は客観的な立場 での意見や考えを述べる場合に用いられ「大事」と「大切」は、個人的な立場での意見や考えを述べる場合に 用いられる。 「重要」は、漢語としての特性上、客観的で公的な文で用いられ易く、多くの漢語と結び付いて用いられ る。また、名詞としての独立性が強いため接頭辞や接尾辞と結び付き易いという特徴がある。 「大事」は、「だいじ」と「おおごと」の二通りの読み方がある。「大事(だいじ)」で用いられる場合は、「小 事」に対し、大きな事の意味で放置できないような重大な出来事や事態の重大さを表わす場合に用いられる。 「大事(だいじ)」は、「-を成す(成し遂げる)、-を計る、-に至る、-を取る」の動詞と結び付いて慣用的に使用 される。特に「大事(だいじ)」は、評価して心にとめるべきさまの意味で主観的な立場で個人的な意見や考え を表わす場合に用いられたり、ある物事の存否にかかわる様子を表わす場合に用いられる特徴がある。 「大切」は、個人的な考えや意見を述べる場合に多く使用されるため、主に口語文で用いられる。また、「大 切」は「-に育てる、-に保管する、-に守る、-に保存する」の動詞と結び付いて用いられる傾向がある。「大 切」と「大事」が交換性が強いのは、主観的で心理的な意味合いを含んでいる場合に多く用いられるためであ るが、「大切」は「大事(だいじ)」より心情性を強く表わすため切なる気持や愛情のこもった場合に使用され る特徴がある。

Daiji is usually combined with the verbs meaning ‘achieve’, ‘promote’, ‘(major incidence) take place’, ‘reach’ or ‘assume’ and used idiomatically. Particularly daiji is used for engraving on one’s memory to express a personal opinion or to express the state of a matter in terms of existence. Taisets' is frequently used colloquially for personal opinions. Taisets is usually combined with verbs meaning ‘raise’, ‘keep’, ‘protect’, and ‘maintain.’ Taisets and daiji are frequently exchangeable for subjective psychological meanings. Taisets is used for love or affection for others as it expresses one’s emotional feelings more strongly.
