Since the transmission tower has been announced in 2005 the Miryang-based movement opposing the transmission tower construction continues to this day. After the opposition’s tent had been torn in June of 2014, the campaigners have embarked on a campaign against nuclear power plants as well. Majority of the campaign members consists of local elderly women. It is important to point out that the people who have been in solidarity from other areas also are women. Local elderly women who have participated in the movement have been politically alienated for a long time. And they did not have a chance to make a social comment in the past. They have played a role at home as wives, daughters, and daughter-in-laws. However, through the campaign, they became the subjects of solving the social problems as members of society, not as females doing gender roles. Through oral performance and narratives, female participants of this movement expressed the subject of ‘resistance’ and ‘solidarity’. Moreover, through the theme of ‘resistance’, it can be grasped that their communities of the residence-centered village have been changed to new communities originating from the sameness of political and social position. Through the subject of ‘solidarity’, it can be known for the female campaigners to leave from norms of gender roles and to become the protagonists of social movement.
