한국에서는 러시아어가 잘 통용되지 않은 상황임에도 불구하고 고려인들의 한국행이 멈추지 않고 있다. 처음에는 단신 입국하여 돈을 벌어 출신국가에 송금하는 것이 대부분이었으나, 근래 가족을 동반하여 한국으로 ‘귀환’하고 있다. 고려인들에게 선부2동 땟골은 새로운 ‘고향’과 다름 아닌 한국 내 최초의 집거지이다. 안산은 서울과 비교적 가까운 곳이기에 외국인들에게는 매력적인 도시라고 할 수 있다. 고려인들은 한국어를 상실한 탓에 제조업 위주의 공단이 발달하고 서울에 비해 방세가 싼 안산 지역을 선호하게 된 것이다. 현재 안산에는 약 10,000명 정도의 고려인이 거주하는 것으로 추정되고 있으며 그 중 4,000여명 정도의 고려인이 땟골에 거주하고 있는 것으로 추산되고 있다. 2011년부터 활동해온 고려인지원센터 ‘너머’의 도움 아래, 최근 2-3년 사이에 고려인마을은 거리가 깨끗해지고 보다 살기 좋은 고려인이주민과 선주민이 공존하는 지역으로 변모하고 있다. 고려인사회는 그들만의 독특한 문화적 특징을 유지하면서도 한국사회 정착을 위해 노력하고 있다. 나아가 선주민 한국인사회와 공존해가는 마을공동체를 만들어가고 있다. 안산 땟골 고려인마을은 게토화의 우려를 씻고 지역의 환경을 바꾸고 경제도 살릴 수 있는 에스닉집거지(ethnic unclave)로 발전하였다. 나아가 수도권 일대로 퍼져 나가는 귀환 고려인의 만남의 장소요 정신적인 지주로 기능하고 있다.
Goryoins(ethnic Koreans in the Soviet Union) continue moving there in large numbers, even though the Russian language is not widely spoken in South Korea. Initially, individual Goryoins migrated to South Korea, found work, and sent money back to their families in their former Soviet countries of origin. But in recent years, they are ‘returning’ to South Korea accompanied by their families. For Goryoins, Ddaetgol, Seonbu 2-dong in Ansan is the first enclave in Korea that resembles their hometowns back in their CIS countries of origin. Since Ansan is located near Seoul, it is an appealing city to foreigners. Because of their inability to speak Korean, Goryoins gravitate towards the Ansan area. In addition to being around fellow Goryoins who speak Russian, there are also many industrial manufacturing jobs, and housing rents are low compared to Seoul. As of 2017, there are an estimated 10,000 Goryoins living in Ansan, and approximately 4,000 of them live in Ddaetgol. With assistance from ‘Neomeo’ Goryoin Support Center (which has operated since 2011), during the last 2-3 years, the Goryoin town in Ansan has come to have cleaner streets and it is transforming into a more desirable area where Goryoin immigrants and former residents in the area coexist. Goryoins strive to settle and adapt to Korean society while simultaneously maintaining distinctive features of their unique culture. In addition, they are in the process of creating a community where they coexist with the Koreans who have resided in the area for some time. Rather than becoming an undesirable ghetto, Ansan Ddaetgol Goryoin Town is developing into ethnic enclave that can enliven the economy of the area and have an otherwise positive effect on the region. Furthermore, it functions as both a meeting place and a spiritual pillar for Goryoins returning to Korea and especially those who are starting to settle in metropolitan areas.
