매월당 김시습의 시에서 그의 자유로운 학문적 동향과 차생활을 알 수 있다. 그의 시에 드러난 학문은 삼교를 뛰어넘어 자신만의 학문의 길을 걷고 있다. 매월당의 차에 대한 동향은 차나무를 기르는 것부터 만들어 마시기까지 스스로의 수양을 통해 나타내고 있다. 우선 그의 차에 관한 시(詩)를 살펴보면 자연과 동화되어 자연과 하나인 삶을 살고 있는 것이 나타나 있다. 절대적인 자유정신에서는 자유분방하고 어디에도 집착함이 없는 그의 삶의 모습이 차를 다리면서 표출되어 있다. 선(禪)의 정신에서는 차를 통해서 수행하고 참선(參禪)하며 선정(禪定)에 들어가는 길을 닦고 있다. 김시습의 초가집과 그의 차생활에 대한 것이 일본의 초암차에 많은 영향을 주었다는 것과 그의 시에서 나타난 양생(養生)적인 부분에서는 도가(道家)의 방법과 일맥상통하는 부분이 있음을 알 수 있다. 매월당은 자유로운 학문동향과 차문화적인 요소를 시를 통해서 나타내고 있으며 그의 행적에서 도인의 자태를 지니고 있음을 나타내고 있다.
A poem of Kim Si-Sup tells us his unconstrained trend and tea life. The study on his poetry exposes only his way over the three religions Taoism. Kim si seup's choga house and his tea life influence Japanese choam tea in many ways and his poetry have something in common with doga's means. He seeks free learning and tea cultural factor through the poetry, and has figure of ascetic in his walk of life.
