본 연구의 목적은 한국의 전통적인 선비정신이 오늘날 우리사회의 정신적 문제점을 치유하는데 가지는 의의를 찾아보고, 선비정신을 구체적으로 구현시켜나가는 발전방안을 모색하는 데 있다. 선비정신의 현대적 의의는 첫째, 높은 도덕성과 청렴을 요구하는 지도자와 공직자들은 ‘수기치인(修己治人)’과 ‘솔선수범(率先垂範)’의 정신을 가져야 하고, 둘째, 물질만능주의와 극단적 이기주의를 극복하기 위해서는 ‘견리사의(見利思義)’의 정신이 요구되고 있으며, 셋째, 높은 교육수준에도 불구하고 아는 것과 행동하는 것이 일치되지 않는 우리들의 행태에는 ‘지행일치(知行一致)’의 선비정신이 요구되고 있다. 그리고 넷째, 지식인들이 인격과 능력도 성숙되지 않은 채 권력과 돈이 되는 자리라면 무조건 나아가는 잘못된 현상은 올곧은 선비들의 ‘엄정한 출처관(出處觀)’으로 극복되어야 한다. 이러한 점에서 선비정신의 현대적 계승과 발전이 중요한데, 그 구체적 발전방안으로서는 먼저 교육적 차원에서는 공식적 정규교육과 비공식적 민간교육에서 선비정신을 포함한 윤리교육을 강화하고, 법적․제도적 차원에서는 이러한 정신교육을 뒷받침할 수 있도록 장치를 마련하여야 하며, 환경적 차원에서는 정부․시민사회․언론이 상호 협력하여 올바른 가치관 형성을 위한 사회적 분위기를 조성해 나가야 한다.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the modern significance of Sun-bi spirit, and search for its developmental strategies. The modern significance and meaning of Sun-bi spirit are as fallows: In the first, the leading peoples of our society should put ‘Sugichin(修己治人)’ or ‘Noblesse Oblige’ into practice. Second, we should develop the spirit, ‘the man who in view of gain think of righteousnass(見利思義)’, in order to overcome mammonism and extreme egoism. Third, we should learn ‘the consistency of knowledge and action(知行一致)’. Fourth, the intellectuals should have a strict attitude about ‘enter the government service and live in seclusion’(出處). In these reasons, the modern inheritance of Sun-bi spirit is very important to us. In educational dimension, the ethics education including Sun-bi spirit in formal or informal education must be strengthened. In legal and institutional dimension, an institutional framework supporting ethics education should be provided. And finally, in environmental dimension, government, civil society and mass communication must make an joint efforts to create a favorable environment for good value.
