Global warming due to rapid industrialization and economic development has affected the climate of Korean Peninsula greatly, causing the average temperature of the penin sula to rise by 1.7℃ annually. Moreover, abnormal climate phenomena including localized heavy rainfalls and sno wfalls, unusual high temperatures, large scale typhoons have become more common while local climate differences increase and weather forecasts become ever harder to p rovide accurate predictions. In ROK Forces, the air force have been in a head position developing a weather for ecast capability needed for the military including collecting, analyzing and producing weathe r related information while the army still has remained in a novice stage, It is because the army recognizes itself as a consumer rather than a producer in weather related wo rks and ignores importance of cultivating and educating weather related specialists. Some would argue that the army does not need its own weather personnel but, eve n though the air force provides a good quality weather information, the army should b e able to interpret and analyze the given information in order to accurately evaluate its e ffects on ground operations. In order to strengthen a wether forecast capability, in a short term, the army shoul d supplement positions responsible for managing a weather information while increasin g graduate level scholarship opportunities in the filed of the meteorology. In a long ter m, the army should create a weather branch and incorporate weather staffs for division and corps level units. In addition, it is important to acquire personnel specialized in weather work and create a joint department for weather education.
