Regarding the Cheongsan-ri Campaign, historians have not clearly brought its whol e aspect to light. Despite of the fact that the Cheongsan-ri Campaign was military aff airs on war, they did not try to study it from the military point of view. Thus, this p aper examines the issue from the military viewpoints utilizing a historical-comparative analysis. Most historians tend to analyze the result of the battle focusing on the desp erate will of the soldiers for the national independence and central figures as a way o f raising national consciousness. But it should be examined on the basis of two aspec ts; that is, preparations for war and conducting of war. This paper illustrates the following three points as finding: First, crushing the enve lopment tactics and scorched-earth operations of a Japanese army, the army for Korea n national independence composed of 2,800 soldiers won the great victory over the Ja panese with about 10 times more soldiers than Korean soldiers. Second, it can be said that the great victory in the Cheongsan-ri Campaign resulted from the theory of the war of independence that made it possible to establish military bases in South and No rth Manchuria including Gando and Siberia. Third, through its victory, today's Korean Army has inherited the spirit of the Army for National Independence and the Liberati on Army. In conclusion, this inquiry contends that the advanced preparation of war c hiefly generated a victory over the Japanese imperialism. Through a more objective re search with regard to the preparation and conducting of war, this issue can be more clarified further in the future.
