Communication is the most important function regarding the use of language, and personal pronouns which reflect social relations between people, play a very important role in communication. Among personal pronouns, the second person pronoun, which refers to the listener in the conversation, represents the basic relationship of communication and shows complex and varied aspects depending on the social and cultural factors of the language. This study intended to analyze the syntactic characteristics of '너' and '你' by examining how Korean and Chinese second person pronouns '너' and '你', function as sentence components and how they are expressed. Also, this study examined the semantic characteristics of ‘너’ and ‘你’ by looking into the difference between what '너' and '你' indicate in the dialogue and contrastively analyzing the designation (degree of designation) of the second person. This study also intended to a comprehensive understanding of how '너' and '你' are used in the dialogue alongside their corresponding relationships through the syntactic and semantic analysis of '너' and '你' which are the most frequently used second person pronouns in Korean and Chinese in communication.
