There needs to be a new approach to the discourse regarding the unification of the Korean peninsula. It should not be focused on political or non-political issues. At this point, it is urgent to find a solution which can overcome the hostile conflict structure and the geopolitical limitations between South and North Korea. In order to accomplish this task, the creation of an ecological environmental preservation zone will be one of the ways to reduce the increasing military conflict around the DMZ. The DMZ is an ecological sanctuary; borne out of the tragic aftermath of the Korean War. In early March of 2014, the Park Geun-Hye administration proposed creating a DMZ world peace park in an effort to build trust across the Korean peninsula. If it is possible to preserve the integrity of the ecological environment of the DMZ, Korea can use not only biological genetic resources, but also develop the area into a tourist attraction in the period of unification. Preserving the landscape of the DMZ under the cooperation of the two Koreas is not only a worthy cause but is integral to the future of the reunited peninsula. However, there have not been many positive results in creating a DMZ ecological environment preservation zone even with the help of the Korean central and local government, including NGOs. Therefore, this paper proposes a hypothesis based on the limitations of creating a DMZ world peace park. Also, through a verification process, this paper reinterprets the limitations in order to discover a third way to overcome the obstacles.
