본 연구는 인간이란 어떤 존재이고 인간의 행복이란 무엇인가에 대해서 고찰 하면서 4차 산업혁명이 어떤 식으로 전개될 경우에만 인간에게 행복을 가져다 줄 수 있는지를 고찰했다. 진화론에 입각한 생물학주의에 반해서 나는 인간과 동물은 근본적으로 다른 존재라고 보며, 또한 인간의 삶을 규정하는 가장 근본적인 욕망이 생존욕망과 종족번식욕망이라고만은 보지 않는다. 인간의 삶은 동물에서는 보기 힘든 ‘고독 감’과 ‘무력감’ 그리고 ‘허무감’이란 부정적인 기분에 의해서 지속적으로 규정되 어 있으며, 이와 함께 인간은 고독감에서 벗어나려는 결합과 합일에의 욕망, 무 력감에서 벗어나려는 초월과 창조에의 욕망, 허무감에서 벗어나려는 의미체계에 대한 욕망을 갖게 된다. 이러한 욕망들은 이성적이면서도 건강한 방식으로 실 현될 수 있지만 많은 경우 비이성적이고 병적인 방식으로 실현된다. 인간에게 특유한 욕망들을 실현하기 위해서 근대가 추구해 온 길을 크게 세 가지로 나눌 수 있다. 첫째로 야스퍼스가 말하는 차축시대에 건립된 정신적 이 념을 실현하는 길이 있다. 이러한 길은 인간 개개인의 철저한 자기반성을 통해 서 인간에게 특유한 욕망들을 이성적이고 건강한 방식으로 실현하는 길이다. 둘째로 마르크스주의나 나치즘과 같은 정치적 이데올로기를 통해서 인간 특유 의 욕망들을 실현하는 길이 있다. 셋째로 과학기술을 통한 길이 있으며, 이러한 길은 정치적 이데올로기의 실현을 통한 길이 실패로 끝나면서 오늘날 크게 득 세하고 있다. 그러나 과학기술이 눈부신 발전을 이룬 오늘날의 상황에서 인류는 오히려 핵무기의 끊임없는 개발이나 환경파괴에서 보듯 전대미문의 위기에 직면하고 있다. 현대기술문명에서도 인간 특유의 욕망들은 많은 경우 부정적인 방식으로 실 현되고 있을 뿐 아니라, 과학기술의 도움을 받아서 극히 심각한 위기를 낳는 방식으로 구현되고 있다. 제4차 산업혁명이 디스토피아로 귀착되지 않고 인류 의 행복에 기여하는 것이 되자면, 과학기술은 우리에게 존재하는 지배에의 의 지와 탐욕을 실현하는 수단으로서가 아니라 오히려 인간 특유의 욕망들을 이성 적이면서도 건강하게 실현하려는 인간의 노력을 보조하는 방향에서 사용되어야 한다.

This study examines what human beings are and what human happiness is, and examines in which conditions the fourth industrial revolution can bring happiness to human beings. In contrast to evolutionary biology, I see human beings and animals as fundamentally different, and I also do not see that the most fundamental desires to define human life are desires for survival and racial breeding. The human life is continuously defined by the negative feelings of 'loneliness', 'helplessness', and 'meaninglessness' which are hard to see in animals. Human beings have desire to escape from loneliness, desire for unity, desire for transcendence and creation, the desire for philosophy, religion and ideology which offer the meaning and direction of the human life. These desires can be realized in rational and healthy ways, but in many cases they are realized in irrational and pathological ways. We can say roughly that there are three ways the modern age has pursued in order to realize the desires unique to human beings, Firstly, there is a way to realize the spiritual ideas that was built in the axle age that Jaspers mentions. This path is a way of realizing the desires peculiar to human beings in a rational and healthy way through radical self-reflection of individual human beings. Secondly, there is a way to realize human-specific desires through political ideologies such as Marxism or Nazism. Thirdly, there is a path through science and technology, and this road is greatly prevailing today after the failure of political ideologies. However, in the present situation where science and technology developed remarkably, mankind is faced with the unprecedented crisis as seen from the continuous development of nuclear weapons or environmental destruction. If the Fourth Industrial Revolution will not result in dystopia but contribute to the happiness of mankind, science and technology should not be used as the means to realize our will to power and greed, but rather should be used in the direction of assisting human efforts to realize human-specific desires rationally and healthily.
