<낙동야언>은 충청도 서천의 학자 권사정이 19세기에 창작한 한문소설이다. <낙동야언>은 <구운몽>을 작품의 출발점으로 삼는 한편 <창선감의록>․<홍백화전>의 ‘늑혼(勒婚) 모티프’ 및 ‘남장(男裝) 모티프’를 변용함으로써 늑혼 갈등 서사의 새로운 전개 방식을 보여주었다. 작품의 전고(典故) 활용 양상을 살필 때 <낙동야언>은 애정전기(愛情傳奇)나 재자가인소설(才子佳人小說)의 전통에 익숙하지 않은 작자가 <구운몽>을 위시한 몇몇 작품의 설정을 빌리는 한편 유가(儒家) 경서(經書)와 역사서를 섭렵하며 쌓은 전고 지식을 총동원하여 애정소설 창작을 시도해 본 작품으로 생각된다. <낙동야언>은 주체적이고 능동적인 여주인공 캐릭터를 통해 늑혼 서사를 새로운 방식으로 이끌어 간 점, 내면 갈등을 솜씨 있게 포착한 점 등 몇 가지 기억할 만한 창안 요소를 지녔다. 그러나 <요로원야화기>와의 비교에서 드러나듯 특별한 주제의식을 부각하지 못한 점에서 <구운몽>을 비롯한 기존 소설의 설정을 답습하는 가운데 일부 요소에 변용을 가한 ‘희작’(戱作)으로 평가된다.
Nakdong-yaeon is a Korean novel in classical Chinese, which is created in 19th century by Kwon Sa-jeong. Nakdong-yaeon made Guunmong as the starting point of the creation of the work, and showed a new way of developing a forced marriage narrative by transforming ‘forced marriage motif’ and ‘male attire motif’ of Changseongamui-rok and Hongbaekhwa-jeon. In examining the aspect of literary quotations, I think Nakdong-yaeon is written by the author who is unfamiliar with the tradition of aiching-chuanchi or chaizi-jiaren novel. It is presumed that the author borrows the setting of several novels including Guunmong, and tries create a romance novel by mobilizing the accumulated knowledge about Confucian traditional books and Chinese ancient history. Nakdong-yaeon has several memorable elements such as showing a new way of developing ‘forced marriage motif’ through a proactive heroine character and capturing inner conflicts skillfully. However, as is clear from the comparison with Yorowon-yahwa-gi, it is evaluated as ‘a novel written for amusement only’ which changed some elements while imitating the setting of existing novels such as Guunmong, since it does not emphasize a particular sense of purpose.
