The purpose of this study is to examine the usage of back channel expression ‘maja’, ‘geurae’, ‘geureochi’ in spoken conversation of Korean. To achieve this, The Sejong Spoken Corpus was used to search for the tokens of ‘maja’, ‘genrae’, ‘geureochi’. The paper is composed of five chapters. The first chapter presents the purpose of this study. The second chapter focuses on preceding research analysis of the back channel expression and analysis data. The third chapter presents realization aspects of back channel expression ‘maja’, ‘genrae’, ‘geureochi’ in conversation. We calculated the frequency of these expressions. The fourth chapter analyzes the discourse function of back channel expression of three types. In the last chapter, a brief summary of this study is provided. This study has found usage’s tendency of back channel expression ‘maja’, ‘geurae’, ‘geureochi’ in spoken conversation of Korean. In the future, further studies for various back channels expression are needed to improve Korean spoken grammar.
