조선통신사가 파견되기 전, 일본 대마번은 많은 준비를 해야 했다. 즉 조선과의 교섭이다. 이 교섭 과정은 양국의 체면이 걸린 문제이자, 대마번에 있어서는 사활문제이기도 했다. 제 10차 무진년(1748) 통신사는 관백이 은거로 물러나 새로운 관백이 승습한 것을 축하하기 위해 파견 된 통신사였다. 이에 대마번은 새 관백 승습을 알리기 전에 구 관백 은거를 알리는 차왜를 조선에 보내게 된다. 흔히 조선후기의 조선통신사 파견의 명분은 일본 관백 승습 축하를 목적으로 양국 간의 우호를 다진다는 것으로 여겨지고 있다. 그런데 새로 관백이 승습할 때 그 전에 구 관백이 그 직에서 물러나야 한다. 그 물러남이 죽음으로 이루어질 수도 있고 은거로 물러날 수도 있다. 제 10차 무진년(1748) 통신사 때는 구 관백은 은거로 물러났다. 그런데 관백의 물러남이 은거로 이루어진 것이 제 3대 관백 승습 때 즉 제 3차 갑자년(1624) 통신사 때 일이어서 문제가 생기게 된다. 본고는 1746년 관백 은거를 고한 차왜가 번청과 주고받은 서장(국사편찬위원회 소장『遜位使書狀往復』)을 비롯한 종가문서 및 조선의 사료를 통해, 대마번에서의 문제와 조선에서의 문제를 밝히려고 한다. 주로 다루는 것은, 대마번은 재정 문제, 특히 조선과의 인삼무역 문제가 심각했으며, 조선에서는 관백 은거를 알리는 차왜를 맞이한 기록이 유실 된 상태여서 선례 없는 일본과의 교섭에 대처하는 문제 등이었다.
Before the dispatch of a Korean Tsusinsi, Tsushima Clan had to prepare a lot. In other words, it is negotiation with Korea. This negotiation process was a matter of face to face in both countries, and it was also a matter of survival in Tsushima. The 10th (1748) Tsusinsi was a misson that was sent out to celebrate the new Shogun's throne, then before sending them, Tsushima had to send an envoy to inform the former Shogun to retire. It is commonly believed that the reason for dispatching the Korean Tsusinsi is to foster friendship between the two countries for the purpose of celebrating the emergence of new Shogun. However, when the new Shogun emergence, the old Shogun must get off the post. Will the abdication be fulfilled by death, or will it be fulfilled by retiring? There are two ways to abdicate. In case of the 10th(1748) Korean Tsusinsi, it was fulfilled by retiring. This article attempts to clarify problems at that time by reading the letter "Son-i-shi Letters" between Tsushima and the Envoy to inform Shogun retired in 1746. The main problem was Tsushima's financial difficulties, ginseng importing issues, and there was a problem of entertaining unprecedented envoys in Korea.
