본 연구의 목적은 다크투어리즘에서 죽음의 개념을 통한 실존적 진정성을 논의하는데 있었다. 우리 모두는 삶이 무한하길 희망하지만, 우리의 삶은 무한하지 않다. 죽음이란 불가피한 것이고, 우리 모두는 생명이 다하는 순간과 마주해야 한다. 이러한 이유로 인해서, 대부분의 사람들은 죽음을 두려워한다, 왜냐하면 육체가 소멸하기 때문이다. 일반적으로 대부분의 사람들은 죽음에 관한 의문을 가지면서 영원성을 꿈꾼다. ‘영원한 것이 있거나 혹은 지금까지 존재하는 것이 있는가?’ 사람들의 희망에도 불구하고, 모든 것은 변화하고 소멸한다. 가장 중요한 것은 비록 누군가가 죽음 이후에 신체를 사라짐에도 불구하고, 방문객들은 다양한 다크투어 장소를 방문함으로써 인식론적 진정성을 경험할 수 있는 기회를 갖는다. 다크투어리즘은 구체적으로 드러내고 형상화하는 방법이다. 죽음은 다양한 상황과 장소에서 발생했으며, 그곳에서 방문객들은 죽음의 의미를 깨닫게 된다. 왜냐하면, 죽음의 양상들이 다양한 방식으로 다크투어 장소에서는 구체화되기 때문이다. 즉, 기억, 복원, 그리고 추모의 실천행위는 방문객들이 실존적 방식으로 죽음을 논의하고 각인시킬 수 있도록 해준다. 또한 방문객들은 누군가의 삶이 자신의 업적이 퍼뜨려지고 미래 세대에 유익한 영향력이 제공됨으로써 지속성과 영속성을 획득하게 된다는 것을 깨닫게 된다. 결론적으로 방문객들은 죽음에 대한 두려움을 경감시키고, 다크투어리즘 장소에서 우주적 순환과 질서를 이해함으로써 죽음을 맞이할 수 있게 된다.
The purpose of this paper was to discuss existential authenticity through the concept of death in dark tourism. We all hope our lives to be infinite, but unfortunately, our lives are not infinite. Death is an inevitable moment that we all face at the very end of our lives. Therefore, most people fear death because of an end of physical existence. Usually, most people dream eternity through the question, 'Is there something eternal, or something that exists forever?' Despite people's hope, everything changes or extinguishes. The most important thing is that although one loses its physical existence after death, visitors have the chance to experience epistemic authenticity by visiting various dark tourism sites. Dark tourism is the method of revealing and embodying death concretely. The deaths occurred in the various situations and places where visitors realize the meaning of the death because the aspects of deaths are embodied in dark tourism sites in various ways. That is, the practice behavior of the memory, restoration, and commemoration make visitors discuss and imprint the death in existential ways. Also, visitors become aware that one's life can acquire sustainability and eternity by disseminating one's achievements and giving beneficial impacts to future generation. In conclusion, visitors can relieve fear of death and face death by understanding cosmic cycle and order at the sites of dark tourism.
