이 연구는 대전지역 신문들의 ‘충청 대망론’보도 논조와 기사유형, 뉴스프레임을 분석했다. <대전일보>, <중도일보>, <충청투데이>의 ‘충청 대망론’보도를 분석한 결과 2015년 이완구 총리 임명을 전후해 보도량이 늘기 시작해 2016년 5월 반기문 방한 이후 폭발적으로 증가했다. 세 신문 모두 충청 대망론과 관련한 긍정적 논조가 대부분이었으며 스트레이트와 해설 및 분석기사가 주류를 이뤘다. 보도프레임에서는 선거전망프레임과 지역발전프레임이 가장 많았는데 인물에 대한 검증과 정책을 비판하는 이슈정책프레임은 세 신문 모두 한 건도 없었다. 이 같은 결과로 볼 때 대전지역 신문들의 충청 대망론 보도는 실체와 내용 없이 보도의 양만 많을 뿐 객관적이고 균형 잡힌 보도가 부족해 지역주의를 선동하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다.
This study analyzed newspapers published in Daejeon regarding their tones in reporting, types of articles, methods of delivery, and news frames regarding the “Hope for Chungcheong Theory.” We analyzed the reports on “Hope for Chungcheong Theory” from the Daejeon Ilbo, Joongdo Ilbo, and Chungcheong Today, and found that coverage increased coinciding with the appointment of Lee Wan-gu as Prime Minister in 2015, and featured explosive growth following Ban Ki-Moon’s visit to South Korea in May, 2016. All three newspapers mostly adopted a positive tone while reporting on the ‘Hope for Chungcheong Theory’ and mainly offered explanatory and analytical articles. As for news frames, those predicting elections and promoting local development were the most frequent, with none of the three newspapers using issues and policy frames to investigate candidates and criticize policies. Those findings indicate that the newspapers of Daejeon reported a lot about ‘Hope for Chungcheong Theory’ but without substance and content, and lacked in objective and balanced reporting, and thus promoted regionalism.
