자율은 21세기 민주시민에게 요구되는 기본 덕목이다. 이 연구는 창의적 체험활동의 핵심 영역인 자율활동 교육과정의 변천 과정을 탐구하는데 목적이 있다. 자율활동은 2009 개정 교육과정에서 창의적 체험활동의 하위 활동으로 처음 등장하여 2015 개정 교육과정까지 이어지고 있다. 2009 개정 교육과정에서는 자율활동이 자치활동, 적응활동, 행사활동 그리고 창의적 특색활동으로 구성되었다. 하지만 자율활동이 타 영역에 비해 지나치게 비대한 영역이라는 비판에 따라 2015 개정 교육과정에서는 자율활동의 하위 영역이 자치ㆍ적응활동과 창의주제 활동으로 재구성되었다. 자율활동의 성격과 목표, 내용 체계를 분석한 결과, 1차 교육과정에서부터 2007년 개정 교육과정까지 편제되었던 특별활동의 하위 영역과 밀접하게 관련된 것으로 밝혀졌다. 따라서 자율활동이 형식상 2009 개정 교육과정에서 신설되었지만, 기본 정신은 1차 교육과정 때부터 점진적으로 강화되어 온 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 지금까지 고시된 교육과정에는 자율활동의 개념과 성격이 제대로 진술되지 않았다. 교사와 학생들이 21세기 시대정신인 자율의 개념과 필요성을 잘 이해하고 자율활동을 효율적으로 실천할 수 있도록 국가 수준 교육과정의 체계적인 지원이 필요하다.
This study aims to investigate the curriculum of autonomous activity in creative experience activity. Autonomy is the basic virtue that a democratic citizen should possess. Autonomous activity was firstly introduced as a sub-domain of creative experience activity in the 2009 revised curriculum. In the 2009 revised curriculum, domains of autonomous activity were composed of self-governance activity, adjustment activity, event activity, and creative peculiarity activity. Considering the criticism that the autonomous activity in the 2009 revised curriculum was very large in domain, domains of autonomous activity in the 2015 revised curriculum were reorganized into self-governance and adjustment activity, creative topic activity. Analyzing the characteristics, objectives, and contents of autonomous activity, it has been revealed that the aspects of autonomous activity are found throughout the 1st curriculum until the 2015 revised curriculum. Although the autonomous activity was firstly introduced in the 2009 revised curriculum, the basic spirit is reflected from the 1st curriculum and successively emphasized through the 2015 revised curriculum. For the efficient implementation of autonomous activity, it is essential that teachers and learners understand the concept and characteristics of autonomy and autonomous activity well. Furthermore, administrative and financial support is needed in order to activate the autonomous activity.
