달은 조선말에서 일제강점기를 거쳐 한국전쟁에 이르는 근현대의혼란을 역학을 통해 이해하고 세상을 구원하려한 역학자였다. 그는 서경 「홍범」편과 주역과 대학을 특히 중시해서, 이 3편의 이름을 따서 洪易學이란 자신의 사상체계를 수립했다. 해방이후 그는 주역에 대한 여러 저술을 남겼고 특히 주역에 관한 도판이 상당수 전해지고 있다. 그는 근현대의 대변환기를 선천에서 후천의 변화로 해석하면서, 동시에 한국 고유의 윷판과 같은 민중들의 놀이를 빌려 그 수리를설명하기도 했다. 또 주역의 괘효사를 우리 고유의 단군사상이나 당시의 한국의 현실등과 연결시켜 우리식으로 설명하는 등 이전의 의리⋅상수의 형이상학이나 우주본체론을 중심으로 한 주역과는 구별되는 독창적인 역학을 수립했다. 한마디로 그는 일제강점과 한국동란이란 격동기를 겪으면서 봉건시대의 종식과 새로운 시대의 도래를역학적으로 설명하면서, 중국이 아닌 우리의 현실을 중심으로 주역을 이해하고 응용한 역학자로서, 한국의 독자적인 근대민간역학을완성한 역학자라고 할 수 있다.
The study focuses on Zhou-Yi (周易) in the confusion and the contradiction of the modern society which spans from the end of the Joseon Dynasty to the period of the Korean War, Japanese colonial era. Lee Dal particularly emphasized Seokyeong Great Plan(洪範) Zhou-Yi(周 易) Great Learning(大學); thus, he established his own philosophy “Hongyeokhak (洪易學)” and named it after the three publications. He started publishing his work as to Ju-Yeok before and after the independence; a considerable number of illustrations covering Ju-Yeok have been descended. He explained the period of the great change in the modern times with the concept, so-called Post-Heaven(后天). He interpreted the change from Pre-Heaven(先天) to Post-Heaven based on Changeology while explaining mathematics (數理) with the folk play such as the Korean traditional play, the yut board. He also established the unique Changeology, which is different from Ju-Yeok focusing on the ontology and metaphysics-dealing with fidelity (義理) and the outer appearances and numbers (象數); he attempted to explain Hexagram words (卦爻辭) of Zhou-Yi in the Korean way by associating it with the reality in the country and the myth of Dangun. He is a changeologist who understood and applied Zhou-Yi based on the reality in Korea rather than China by explaining the advent of a new era and the end of the feudal age from his experience in the Korean War, the turbulent era, Japanese colonial era based on Changeology; In short, he was the changeologist who completed the modern civilian Changeology.
