Understanding the meaning and research type of curriculum reconstruction in English subject is crucial to both teachers and researchers in the field of English education in order for the teachers to develop their students’ inguistic and cognitive capabilities suggested in national curriculum. Therefore, this study selected and analyzed sixty seven articles including those of subject content integration, theme-based integration, level-differential instruction, and others researching the meaning and principles of curriculum reconstruction. Based on the results of this study, the meaning was suggested as English subject content re-organization based on analyzing students’ evel and characteristics as well as subject content level. Four principles for developing and implementing curriculum reconstruction were established such as analysis of students’ haracteristics, subject content structure analysis, content-methodology linkage, and continuous communication between teacher and students. The main research types of curriculum reconstruction of English subject were categorized as other subjects or theme integrated one, rather than passive types such as simple change of subject unit, omission or addition of some parts of subject content matter. Followed by the research results, several discussions and suggestions were made for further research and for more desirable ways of planning and implementing curriculum reconstruction in the field of English education.
