조선후기 통신사행 수행 사자관들의 신분과 가계 및 인척관계를 탐구한 본고의 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 이들 사자관들이 총 18명이라는 사실을 밝혔고, 이들이 수록된 典據들을 일일이 제시하였다. 이어서 이들 모두가 『寫字廳先生案』에 수록되어 있다는 사실을 통해서, 『사자청선생안』의 사자청 선생들이 사자청의 고위 사자관직을 역임한 자들이었다는 것을 방증하였고, 역으로 통신사행 수행 사자관들이 실제로 실력 있는 사자관들이었다는 것을 방증하였다. 그리고 본고의 말미에 『사자청선생안』에 이들에 대해 수록된 내용을 보완하여, 「朝鮮後期 通信使行 隨行 寫字官案」이라는 자료를 제시하였다. 둘째, 통신사행 수행 사자관들이 속한 가계를 분석한 결과, 이들 가계들이 잡과와 주학 입격자를 다수 배출한 명문 기술직 중인 가계였으며, 가계가 밝혀지지 않은 일부 사자관들의 신분은 기술직 중인이거나 그와 동등한 사회 신분적 위계의 신분이었다고 유추하였다. 주요 기술직 중인 가계에서 통신사행 수행 사자관을 배출한 양상을 파악한 결과, 주요 기술직 중인 가계의 벌열화 양상과 아울러, 1명의 사자관을 배출한 가계도 적지 않았다는 것을 확인하였다. 2명 이상의 통신사행 수행 사자관을 배출한 각 가계 출신의 수행 사자관들이 대부분 서로 가까운 혈연관계에 있었다는 사실을 통해서, 통신사행 수행 사자관을 선발하는데 부계 혈통도 어느 정도 영향을 미쳤다고 유추하였다. 그리고 통신사행 수행 사자관과 대일본 사행 참여 역관을 모두 배출한 가계에서 수행 사자관을 먼저 배출한 경우가 많았다는 사실을 통해서, 당시 사회에서 수행 사자관의 역할도 참여 역관의 역할 못지않게 중요하게 인식되고 있었다고 판단하였다. 셋째, 통신사행 수행 사자관들의 혼인 양상을 살펴본 결과, 이들 사이에서 그리고 이들과 대일사행 참여 역관들 사이에서, 외가나 처가 등 직접적인 혼인 관계를 형성한 사례는 찾아 볼 수가 없었다. 그러나 그 사이를 벗어났지만 사회생활을 하는데 영향을 미칠만한 정도의 인척관계를 형성한 사례는 적지 않았다. 이 사실을 근거로, 통신사행 수행 사자관을 선발하는데 본인의 능력은 물론, 인척관계도 어느 정도 영향을 미쳤을 것이라고 유추하였다. 그러나 개인이 지닌 능력을 가장 중시하였으며, 비록 제한적이기는 하였지만 기술직 중인 사회 내에서 서로 경쟁하기도 하였다고 주장하였다.
This paper analyzed the social status and lineage and marriage of the SaJaGuans(寫字官, official transcriber) those who followed TongSinSa(通信使, diplomacy party assigned from JoSun to Japan) in the late JoSun Dyansty(朝鮮). This study on above issues first was performed. The results is this; first, through reserch on the diplomatic materials were written the diplomatic relation history between JoSun and Japan, the member of the SaJaGuans(寫字官) corrrectly was confirmed. second, through the SaJaCheongSeonSangAn(寫字廳先生案, high official transcriber rosters), it was proved that they were high SaJaGuans of SaJaCheong(寫字廳). third, through the reserch on the their family records, their social status was Jungin(中人) or the same social rank status. Their families were powerful families in the Jungin society, and formed marriage relationship with the families produced the OyugGuans(譯官) who followed TongSinSa and conducted MunUiHang(問慰行) to such a degree as have an effect on appointment. Absolutely it was known that the top qualification element to be the SaJaGuan who followed TongSinSa was the individual ability. But although smaller than the individual ability, the social position of the lineage and the marriage relationship in Jungin(中人) society affected to some extent on the oppointment of the SaJaGuan who followed TongSinSa.
