The fact that Cheonan should commemorate the first king(taejo) of Goryeo, Wang Geon is not selective but essential. That’s because Wang Geon set up Cheonan Commandery in where there is not a big town and named there Cheonan. Except for Gaeseong under the circumstances like the division of South and North Korea, the first district which we will have to recall Wang Geon historically and culturally is Cheonan. The history of Chonan began as Wang Geon set up Cheonan Commandery to conquer Post Baekje in 930. Cheonan amounts to be the new town that Wang Geon made. Wang Geon made Cheonan-related many names not only Cheonan but also Jiksan, Seonggeo Mountain and so on. He achieved a great work of unification of the later three kingdoms based on Cheonan. Wang Geon took to 11th wife Cheonan BuwonBuin(by name) among 29 wives. They had two sons. In Goryeo Dynasty, Wang Geon shrine was created in Cheonan, the ruins of unification of the later three kingdoms Gojeong(military training ground) and Castle Wangja were preserved. Goryeo writers regarded Cheonan as ‘the land that uprears the royal cause’ and paid their respects at shrine in Cheonan. In 1349, Lee Saek’s father, Lee Gok named a pavilion built in Gojeong, Hoego-jeong meaning ‘recalling Wang Geon’s great works’. That Cheonan chooses Wang Geon for city brand is no reason whatever. Rather, it is strange that we have been indifferent to the city founder, Wang Geon. Cheonan city feels keenly the necessity of Wang Geon’s importance for historical culture resources and should affirm the will to develop his historical and cultural contents. This essay was preliminarily written as a part of these works. This study followed Wang Geon’s traces in Cheonan and reviewed other regions’ cases developing historical figures as cultural contents. Next, The direction of developing Wang Geon’s historical and cultural contents was proposed. This study noticed Yuryang-dong region such as Taejo Mountain-gil and Taejo Mountain Park and so on. This region is the best place for business developing Wang Geon’s historical and cultural contents. Remodeling Taejo Mountain-gil 2.5km as ‘Wang Geon’s Road’ was suggested. To put it concretely, building resting places at a discreet distance on this allee where people often come and explaining the placement of Wang Geon’s Cheonan Commandery and the story about unification of the later three kingdoms mainly with Cheonan-related characters were presented. In commemoration of the placement date of Wang Geon’s Cheonan Commandery, namely Cheonan’s birthday, September 8th in 930(August 8th by the lunar calendar), the representation of Wang Geon Parade will be a great challenge. In a concrete way, reenact the event that the first king Wang Geon leading a large force came down to Cheonan for conquering Post Baekje.
