본 논문은 무의식의 담론에 근거한 마음교육 가능성을 탐색하기 위하여 대행선사(大行禪師)와 프로이트의 마음관과 마음교육관을 비교분석하다. 대행선사는 인간 본성(本性)의 회복 과정을 ‘현재의식’과 ‘잠재의식’의 관계를 가지고 설명하고 있으며, 본성의 깨달음이란 현재의식과 잠재의 식이 합일되는 경험이라고 설파한다. 프로이트도 이와 유사하게 마음을 ‘의식’과 ‘무의식’이라는 개념을 가지고 설명하고 있으며, 무의식(또는 이드)의 토를 현재의식(또는 자아)의 토로 편입 시켜가는 것이 정신분석의 목표임을 천명하고 있다. 그러나 두 담론의 용어의 유사성에도 불구하 고 종교담론과 학술담론으로서의 내용적인 차이가 적지 않음이 확인되었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 두 담론은 마음의 심층구조에 대한 통찰에 있어서 구조적 유사성을 보여주고 있으며, 현재의식과 잠 재의식, 의식과 무의식의 통합을 통하여 마음의 온전성을 회복할 수 있다고 보는 마음교육관에 있 어서도 어느 정도의 공통성을 보여주고 있다는 점도 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 관점에 따라서 본 논문은 무의식담론에 근거한 마음교육론으로 해석할 수 있는 종교담론으로서의 대행선사의 가르침 과 학술담론으로서의 프로이트의 이론이 상호소통할 수 있으며, 이를 통해 서로 이론적 타당성과 실천적 적합성을 증진시킬 수 있다고 결론짓는다.
This research paper is aimed to explore and discuss the compatibility of academic and religious discourses about the zen meditation of ‘Ju-in-gong’, which is presented by Daehaeng Sunim, the great korean buddhist master who established Hanmaum Seon(Zen) Center. For this purpose, Ju-in-gong zen method will be approached and analyzed by Freud’s psychoanalytic theories. Daehaeng Sunim describes the process of going back to the ‘true self’ by the relations between consciousness and subconsciousness. She asserts that spiritual enlightenment is an experience of unifying consciousness and subconsciousness. Similarly, Sigmund Freud tries to show the fundamental nature of human mind by means of consciousness and unconsciousness(or subconsciousness). He makes it clear that the ultimate goal of psychoanalysis is to integrate the unconsciousness (or id) into the consciousness(or ego). These two discourses have a lot of similarity with each other in using terminology but we still can find many different concepts between them as academic and religious discourses. Although the discourses have seemingly different contents, they show a meaningful similarity in getting an insight into the fundamental structure of human mind. We also can discover they both deal with ‘inner healing’ or ‘inner self recovery’. For the above mentioned reasons, this paper concludes that Freud’s psychoanalytic theories can be a very useful and supportive tool in approaching the teachings of Daehaeng Sunim from an academic point of view.
