필자는 이 논문에서 칸트 영구평화론의 "숨은" 핵심을 밝히려고 한다. 윤리결사체가 바로 이 "핵심"이다. 그러나 지금까지 이 핵심은 은폐되어 있었다. 영구평화론은 대체로 윤리결사체와 상관이 없다고 평가되었다. 칸트 역시 이 해석을 지지하는 것처럼 보인다. 하지만 칸트의 논의를 따라가면, 영구평화론의 궁지가 드러난다. 영구평화론이 자신의 궁지에서 벗어나려면, 개혁 불가역성 원리가 타당해야 한다. 이 원리를 뒷받침하는 것이 바로 칸트의 윤리결사체이다. 필자의 주장이 옳다면, 오늘날 칸트의 영구평화론을 계승하려는 사상가는 윤리결사체를 반드시 고려해야 할 것이다. 필자는 하버마스의 논의를 통해 이 점을 설명할 것이다.
I will show the “hidden” core of Kant’s doctrine of perpetual peace. The hidden core is Kant’s ethical community. but Kant’s doctrine is said to be unrelated to ethical community. Kant also seemed to propose it. but I argue that this understanding of Kant’s doctrine fails and Kant ’s perpetual peace demands ethical community. Finally I will explore that the implications of my thesis for Habermas’ reformulation fo Kant’s philosophical project Toward Perpetual Peace.
