본 연구는 가평지역 공립 고등학교에서 근무하는 교사 20명에 관한 이야기이다. 교사의 삶은교육활동과 밀접하게 연결되고 교육활동은 교육의 질을 결정하는 중요한 요인으로 작용한다. 농촌교육이라는 거시적 측면에서 벗어나 가평지역 공립 고등학교라는 특수한 상황에서 교사의 삶을 분석하였다. 연구 방법으로 심층면담과 참여관찰 기법을 활용하였다. 주요 연구 결과를 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 가평지역 공립 고등학교에는 ‘남으려는 자’, ‘버티려는 자’, ‘나가려는 자’ 가 서로 얽히며 살고 있다. 둘째, 이러한 교사들 간의 서로 다른 지향점은 학교 안에서의 학생, 교사, 관리자, 학부모간의 상이한 관계 형성으로 이어져 학교생활의 ‘불편함’을 초래하고 있다. 마지막으로 셋째, 교사들의 학교 안에서 겪는 어려움은 그들로 하여금 학교 밖에서의 삶을 모색하도록 하지만 이 역시 제한적이어서 결국에는 도시에서의 삶을 선택하도록 한다. 이 작업은 그동안 연구 사각지역에 머물던 도농복합지역 교사들의 삶을 밖으로 드러내 보여주었다는 점에서 의미가 있다.
This is a story about the twenty teachers who work in Gapyeong public high schools. The teacher’s life is closely linked to educational activities, and educational activities are important factors that determine the quality of education. Without the macroscopic perspective of rural education, The study analyzed the teacher’s life in a special case of public school in Gapyeong area. According to research results, public high school in Gapyeong area live in an intertwined relationship with those who want to be left, those who want to stay, and those who want to leave. These different orientations of teachers are giving ‘Discomfort’ to the formation of relations with students, teachers, administrators and parents in school. ‘Discomfort’ leads teachers to turn to life outside the school, but it also seems difficult. Eventually, they tend to fill the target time and go to the city. This article is meaningful in that it showed out the life of the teachers of cmmercial and agricultural area who stayed in the study area.
