본 연구는 국립국어원의 민족 생활어 조사 중장기 계획(2007∼2015)에 따라서 2008년도 하반기에 실시한 제2차년 조사의 기본 항목인 ‘김치’에 대한 조사결과를 대상으로 한 것이다. 2008년 진행된 김치에 관한 생활어 조사 내용을 토대로 각 범주별 어휘를 개괄적으로 살펴 김치에 관련된 기초자료를 정리하였다. 제주도, 경상북도 북부․동부, 경남, 충청북도, 충청남도, 경기도, 강원도, 전라남도 지역, 중국 동북 3성지역 조선족 등 제보자 24명을 대상으로 하여 김치명칭, 재료, 도구, 방법, 종류, 기타 등의 범주로 나누어 김치 관련 어휘를 민속지적 조사 방법을 통해 조사하였다. 이러한 조사 방법으로 앞서 언급하였듯이지역별로 어휘 조사 결과물의 수위가 조금씩 차이가 나는 것은 사실이지만 관련된 지역별로는 확장 어휘를 다양하게 수집할 수 있었다. 그 결과 연구원들의조사를 통해 김치와 관련된 어휘를 총 1,610개의 수집할 수 있었으며 이중 943 개는 표준국어대사전에 등재되어 있지 않은 미등재 어휘였다. 음성자료로는 제보자들과의 대화 내용을 담은 구술자료 20개 파일을 수집하였으며, 구술자료는 전사프로그램을 활용하여 모두 전사하였다. 영상자료로는 김치와 관련된 사진 1,221장, 동영상 109편을 수집, 정리하였다.
This study is about the result of a survey on ‘Gimchi’ which is a basic item of the second year’s survey that was implemented in the latter half of 2008 according to the medium and long-term plan for ethnic living words by The National Institute of the Korean Language. It is intended to organize basic data related to Gimchi after looking into the lexicon by each category comprehensively based on the survey on living words regarding Gimchi which was progressed in 2008. The lexicon related to Gimchi was surveyed through an ethnographic survey method by dividing 24 informers from Jeju island, the northern and eastern part of north Gyeongsang province, soung Gyeongsang province, north Chuncheong province, south Chungcheong province, Geyonggi province, Gangwon province, south Jeolla province area and ethnic Koreans living in 3 castles located at northease of China into categories such as names of Gimchi, materials, tools, methods, types and others etc. As mentioned earlier, it is true that there are some differences in the level of results of the survey on the lexicon by regions but the expanded lexicon could be collected diversly for related regions by this survey method. As a result, total 1610 words related to Gimchi could be collected through the survey of researchers and 943 words out of them were not registered at the Korean Standard Unabridged Dictionary. 20 audio materials containing conversations with informers were collected, and all verbal data were copied by utilizing a copy program. 1221 images and 109 videos were collected and organized as images and video materials.
