This paper attempts to analyze cognitive poetics aspect of ‘二進大觀園’ story, in which it deals with Liu Laolao, from the Chinese classic novel HongLouMeng. At the beginning, it will examine the scripts of TaoHuaYuanJi, assuming that Daguanyuan, the central background of HongLouMeng, reminds of the Shangri-ra from TaoYuanMing’s TaoHuaYuanJi. After that, Chapter 3 mainly analyzes Liu Laolao’s Daguanyuan visit by separating it into three different parts, entering, staying, and exiting. Along these parts, the paper focuses on the effect occurring after Liu Laolao, the special character, is placed at Daguanyuan, the central part of HongLouMeng. And then eventually, it deducts that Liu Laolao’s presence functions as the medium so that the readers can look into Daguanyuan, isolated from the outside world, more closely, in-depth and in detail. This paper does not attempt to demonstrate that Daguanyuan and Shangri-ra are similar in looks. Actually, it mainly focuses on explaining that it is possible to theoretically prove that these two are similar from the cognitive poetics perspective.
