The Korean Ministry of Education have announced that they examine Chinese characters to be incorporated in the 2015 Revised National Curriculum primary school textbooks. In this paper, I stress the negative impact this implies on students' basic Korean vocabulary development as well as putting additional stress on students and their parents, particularly as Chinese character are difficult to learn for young learners. I strongly suggest that the Ministry seriously consider systematically collecting and analysing data on primary school students' language needs and use, then revisit this policy.
