한국의 사드배치 결정은 점증하는 북한의 핵과 미사일 도발에 대한 방어적 전략의 일환으로 강구되었다. 사드배치에 가장 강력하게 반발하는 국가는 중국으로 사드배치는 중국을 포위하기 위한 미국의 전략이라는 인식을 가지고 있다. 중국은 한국이 미국의 미사일 방어체제의 일환으로 강구되는 사드배치를 수용하였다는 측면에서 맹비난하고 있고, 한중관계는 최악의 상태로 함몰되고 있는 것이 사실이다. 중국의 입장에서 사드는 북핵을 감시하는 것이 아니라 중국의 감시하기 위한 것이라고 인식하는 동시에 동북아에서 미국의 전략적 우위를 형성하는 기반이 되었다는 주장을 하고 있다. 그러나 한국의 입장에서는 북핵의 위협을 극복하기 위한 최선의 선택이라는 점을 강조하고 있어 한중간의 마찰이 예상되고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 사드배치 결정 후 논란이 되고 있는 문제를 바탕으로 사드배치의 타당성 검토와 더불어 설치 배경을 알아보고, 사드배치 결정에 대해 반대하고 있는 중국이 어떠한 반응을 보이고 있는가에 대한 타당성 검토와 더불어 하나의 해법을 제시하고자 한다. 다음으로 한국은 어떠한 대응 논리를 가지고 있는지에 대한 분석을 하고자 한다. 마지막으로 사드배치 후 나타날 수 있는 딜레마와 해결 시나리오의 타당성을 한중외교를 중심으로 분석하고자 한다.
