본 논문은 종교개혁 500주년을 맞이하여 한국개신교회에 큰 영향력을 미치고 있는개혁신학자 칼뱅신학과 인문주의와의 상호관계성을 분석함으로 인간 존엄의 가치가뿌리째 흔들리는 시대에 인간의 근원을 다시 묻고자 21세기 새로운 기독교인간주의를되살리려는 시도이다. 중세의 암흑의 시대를 지나 인간의 창조성을 복원시키려는 원대한 인문주의의 이상이 이성중심의 근대를 지나면서 비인간화의 길로 가게된 것은 인간성의 근원을 상실했기 때문이다. 이렇게 현대사회 안에서 이성중심의 초월부재의 사회문화적 공간과 공적 담론 속에서 근원을 비추어야하는 종교는 영향력을 잃고 무력해졌다. 더욱이 청년들은 삶의 가치들을 찾아서 교회를 떠나는 탈종교 현상이 현대사회에 뚜렷하다. 본 논문은 최근 주목하고 있는 인간이란 무엇인가? 어떻게 살아야하나? 등 인간의 근원적 질문에 응답하기 위해 칼뱅의 신학적 인문주의를 고찰하면서새로운 기독교인간주의의 의의를 성찰하고자한다. 무엇보다도 삶의 자리에서 신앙의역동성을 상실한 한국교회를 반성하며, 르네상스 문화 전반의 급격한 변화 속에서 그리스도인들의 실제적 삶의 문제를 성서적으로 해명하고 기독교진리에 터한 삶의 신학으로 ‘신행일치’의 신앙을 설파하여 온 칼뱅의 신학 형성과정을 살펴보는 것은 유의미하다. 왜냐하면 칼뱅신학에서 인문주의자들과의 학문적 교류와 시대정신에 대한 성찰은 신앙의 세계와 삶의 현장에 생명을 불어 넣는 길을 제시하고 있기 때문이다.
In order to celebrate the Reformation 500th Anniversary, this essay will explorer the interaction between Calvin’s Theological Formation and Renaissance Humanism to find new meanings of Christian Humanism in our time where the human dignity has been lost dramatically. In particular, in the postmodern era responding to the cultural phenomenon of seeking a new religiosity beyond institutionalized religions and doctrines of churches, in this study on one of the most influential figures among Reformation theologians, Calvin’s Theological Humanism will help Korean theological discourses and Korean church as well in which the dynamic power of the word of God in our everyday life and real world today has been lost. Calvin’s challenges to our Protestant theological discourse through his theology which had affected people’s faith life practically and his world concretely in his time of 16th century Europe, make us to recognize what would be a human being and how we flourish a value of human dignity. This is still fundamental questions to the humanity in the 21th century.
