한반도에서 분단 시대를 마감하고 통일 시대를 개막하는 것은 우리의 시대적 사명이다. 이를 위해 우리 정부는 남북관계의 발전과 한반도 평화통일을 이루기 위한 다양한 정책들을 추진하며 남북 간 실질적인 협력의 통로를 열어가기 위한 조처들을 지속적으로 수행하고 있기도 하다. 또한 우리사회는 행복하고 국제사회와 더불어 발전하는 통일한국을 만들기 위한 준비에 큰 관심을 쏟고 있다. 남북통일은 국민 모두가 이를 지지하고 함께 할 때 현실이 될 수 있는 것이다. 여기에서는 이런 의미를 갖는 한국사회에서의 통일에 대한 인식을 살펴보았다. 그리고 이와 함께 한국사회에서 통일 인식과 북한 및 동북아국가 인식과의 관련성을 분석하였다. 이 분석을 위해서는 사회조사 설문자료를 이용하였다. 분석 결과를 보면 한국사회에서의 통일 인식은 북한 및 동북아국가에 대한 인식과 일정한 관련성을 갖고 있는 것으로 추측된다.
Unification on the Korean peninsula is a long cherished desire common to all Korean people. Only when national unification is attained can the two Koreas break free from the shackles of modern history that bind us to this very day, and look forward to more breakthrough moments that will shape the course of our history, let alone the world. By establishing sustainable peace on the Korean peninsula, the main agents of unification activity seek to build a solid foundation for a unification era that ensures everyone’s happiness. The most important part of this unification journey will be the strength and support of the Korean people and the world at large. This paper, based on the Korean general social survey 2008-2014 data, conducted an analysis on the relationship among unification, North Korea and Northeast Asian countries perception of Korean society. As a result of the analysis, some relationship among unification, North Korea and Northeast Asian countries perception of Korean society were confirmed.
