본 연구의 목적은 우리나라 과학영재교육의 과거를 돌아보고, 미래과학영재교육의 질적 향상을 위한 방향을 제안하고자 함이다. 우리나라 과학영재교육의 흐름을 확인하기 위해 1980년부터 2008년까지의 연구논문을 대상으로 연구주제를 분석하였으며 그 결과를 연대별로 정리하였다. 국내과학영재교육의 도입기라 할 수 있는 1980년대에는, 교육개발영역에 대한 연구가 주를 이루었으며 영재교육에 대한 기초연구와 영재아에 관한 연구도 다수 병행되었다. 국가적 지원이 강화된 1990년대에는, 영재아에 대한 연구와 교사영역에 대한 연구가 큰 폭 상승하였다. 2000년대에는, 다양한 정책적 변화가 있었으며 연구 분야에도 다양화 현상이 두드러졌다. 전반적으로, 학부모 및 영재아 환경요인에 대한 연구는 미흡한 실정이며 기초연구에 대한 부진현상도 극복해야할 과제로 남아 있다. 본 연구는 한국 실정에 맞는 과학영재교육에 관한 근본적인 연구가 더 많이 이루어져야 함을 제안한다. 또한 과학영재교육에 관한 더 많은 연구가 수행되어야 하며, 이는 영재아와 그 부모를 포함하는 다방면의 연구이어야 함을 강조한다. 더불어 본 연구의 분석결과에 근거하여, 전문적인 연수프로그램의 개발과 권위적인 학술지의 등장이라는 제도적인 변화도 병행되어야 함을 제안한다.
The objective of this paper is to see firstly what was done in the field of the science education for the gifted in Korea and secondly what is recommendable to enhance the quality of the future education in the field. In order to elucidate the flow of the field, we analyzed the distribution of research subjects in the field from the 1980 to the 2008. Our analysis shows the following : (i) In the 1980’s which was the introducing period of the gifted education in Korea, the part of educational development in the field was mainly investigated. There were lots of basic researches on the gifted education as well as researches focussed on the gifted students. (ii) During the 1990’s which was the propagation stage supported by the government, researches on the gifted students and the teachers are highly increased. (iii) There were various changes on the policy during the 2000’s, and research field also shows remarkable diversity. (iv) As a whole, researches on the parents and the environmental factors are insufficient and the lack of fundamental researches still remained a problem to be solved. As a conclusion, we suggest more of the fundamental studies on the science education for the gifted suitable for Korean situation. Also, we suggest that further studies on the science education for the gifted be carried out with versatile studies including gifted students and their parents. Based on our analysis, several systemic furnishings such as the training programs and authorized journals for the teachers are in need of appearance.
