이 글은 무당내력이 어떤 성격의 자료이고 서울 굿과 무속 연구에서 어떤 의미가 있는 자료인지를 밝히고자 하였다. 무당내력이어떤 성격의 자료인가를 파악하기 위해서 그것이 전제하는 무속에대한 관점과 인식을 검토하였다. 그 결과, 무당내력은 당대 무속현상을 ‘기술’하기 보다는 무속의 역사적 기원을 밝히는 데 일차적관심이 있음을 확인하였다. 무속의 기원에 대한 무당내력의 중요한 특징은 무속의 역사적 기원을 단군과 신교에서 찾는 단군 중심주의 입장을 취한다는 점이다. 무속을 바라볼 때, 단군에 뿌리를 둔 기원론의 입장을 취하기 때문에, 무당내력에서 당대 무속은 본래의 모습을 잃어버린, 왜곡된 현상으로 비판된다. 하지만 기본적으로 단군에서 기원한 역사성을 인정한다는 점에서, 무속의 존재 자체를 부정하지는 않는다. 이처럼 당대 무속에 대한 부정적 인식에도 불구하고 그것을 부정하기보다는단군과 연결시켜 나름의 의미를 부여하는 점이 무당내력의 무속에대한 관점의 특징이라고 할 수 있다. 개별 거리와 무구, 굿의 과정에 대한 검토를 통해, 무당내력이전달하는 서울 천신굿 자료는 서울 굿과 무속 연구에 유의미한 자료라는 점을 확인하였다. 서울 천신굿 개별거리에 대한 정보는 신뢰할수 있고, 무당내력에 나타난 서울 천신굿 절차를 통해 현재의 서울천신굿 절차가 최근에 와서야 성립된 것임을 알 수 있었다. 이런 점에서 특히 무당내력은 1920년대부터 현재까지의 서울 천신굿의 역사적 변화를 파악하는데 중요한 자료의 하나라고 평가된다. 이 글은 무당내력은 이른바 단군과의 연관 속에서 무속을 새롭게 바라본 최초의 자료일 수 있다는 추정을 해보았다. 설사 그렇지않더라도, 생생한 채색 그림과 글로써 1920~1930년대의 서울 천신굿과정을 구체적으로 재현하고 있다는 사실만으로도 무당내력은 서울 굿과 무속 연구의 중요한 자료의 하나라고 평가할 수 있다.
This paper tried to clarify the character of the Musok(Korean Shamanism) data in a book titled Mudangnaeryuk(巫黨來歷, The Origin of Korean Shamanism) and the usefulness of the data in a study of Seoul Gut and Musok with the purpose of proper understanding of Mudangnaeryuk. To grasp the character of Musok data in Mudangnaeryuk, the viewpoint and awareness about Musok of the book were examined. Consequently it became known that the primary concern of Mudangnaeryuk was not to describe the current states of Musok, but to to clear the origin of it. The peculiarity of concern of Mudangnaeryuk for the orgin of Musok is Tangun-Centrism that seeks for the orgin of Musok in Tangun and Singyo. The current states of Musok are criticized for losing and distorting the fundamental features of Musok from the viewpoint in Mudangnaeryuk of emphasizing the original state of Musok. But it does not deny the existence of Musok itself. The peculiarity of the viewpoint about Musok in Mudangnaeryuk is that despite of negative aspects of Musok it links Musok to Tangun. It was ascertained that the data of the book about Seoul Cheonsin Gut were useful for a study of Seoul Gut and Musok. The informations about each process of Seoul Cheonsin Gut are reliable. And it became known by the examination of processes of Seoul Cheonsin Gut in Mudangnaeryuk that the present processes of Seoul Cheonsin Gut were formed recently. In this respect Mudangnaeryuk can be assessed as an important data for grasping of historical changes of Seoul Cheonsin Gut. This paper presumed that Mudangnaeryuk can be considered as a first data viewing newly Musok in connection with Tangun. This assumption may not be realized. But by the only fact that Mudangnaeryuk describes vividly the processes of Seoul Cheonsin Gut through some colorful paintings and writings, it can be assessed as an important data for studying Seoul Gut and Musok.
