본 연구에서는 신디셔먼(Cindy Sherman)의 셀프 포트레이트 작품에서 보여지는 무의식을 융의 분석심리학 관점에서 고찰해봄으로써 예술에 있어서 의식과 무의식이 만나는 지점을 제시하여 창조활동을 매개로 심리적 균형과 자아통합을 달성하는 미술이 지니고 있는 치료적 가능성에 대한 이론적, 임상적 자원을 제공하고자 한다. 이에 첫째, 융의 분석 심리학적 관점으로 본 무의식의 대표적인 개념을 살펴보았다. 둘째, 문헌 자료 조사 방법을 통하여 신디셔먼이 작품 활동을 했던 시대의 미술사적 흐름을 알아보고 그 속에서 신디셔먼 작품 활동 과정을 살펴봄으로써 개인적인 삶과 시대적 배경이 어떻게 한 개인에게 경험되어지고 작품 활동 과정에 영향을 미치는가에 대해 알아보았다. 셋째, 융의 분석 심리학적 관점으로 본 무의식의 대표적 개념들이 작품세계에 어떻게 투영되어 나타나고 신디셔먼의 작품 변화와 어떻게 연관되어 있는지 살펴보기 위해 신디셔먼의 감정을 가장 잘 드러내고 있는 작품으로 임의 선정하여 작품의 특성을 분석하였다. 넷째, 신디셔먼의 작품 세계를 통해 미술의 치료적 요인과 한 개인의 작품과정 속에서 자기실현의 과정을 조명해 보고자 하였다. 연구결과, 신디셔먼의 셀프 포트레이트 작품을 통하여 미술이 지니고 있는 자기 실현화 과정의 기능과 자신의 무의식과 교류하는 치료적 가능성에 대한 과정을 확인 할 수 있었다.
This study analyzes Cindy-Sherman's subconsciousness which is reflected in her self-portraits from the perspective of Jung's analytical psychology. This intends to provide the theoretical and clinical resources, which can prove the clinical possibility of art to attain the psychological balance and self integration by creative activities while this study suggests the cross point of consciousness and subconsciousness in the art. First, this study concentrates on the concept of subconsciousness in the standpoint of Jung's analytical psychology. Second, the literature research in this paper deals with the trend of art history which appeared in Cindy Sherman's time, and examines the artwork process of Cindy Sherman during that period. This shows how one's personal life and time period influence one individual's experience and artwork process. Third, this study analyzes the characteristics of the art work, which reflects Cindy Sherman's emotion, for the purpose of examining how the concepts of subconsciousness are projected on her arts, and are related to her works, from the viewpoint of Jung's analytical psychology. Forth, based on Cindy Sherman's arts, this study intends to shed the light on the clinical function which arts possess, and self-realization during one's art-work procedures. As a result, the study of Cindy Sherman's self-portraits confirms that art works possess the function of self-realization, and the clinical possibility of art by the means of the interchange with self subconsciousness.
