스쿠버다이빙 장비는 애초 군사목적으로 개발, 사용되어 오다가 구미각국에서는 이미 해양 레저스포츠용으로 자리를 잡아 널리 일반화 된지 오래 되었다. 우리나라에서는 스쿠버 다이빙이 1970년대부터 급속히 그 보급이 확산되기 시작하여 이제는 많은 동호인들이 즐기는 해양 레저스포츠로 각광을 받는 분야가 되었다. 그러나 아직 장비의 대부분이 수입에 의존하고 있고 또한 고가의 장비로서 쉽게 구입할 수 있는 것은 아니다. 장비의 개발목적은 단지 레저스포츠 애호가들만을 위한 것은 아니다. 따라서 대체장비로서 실로 그 용도는 다양하여 수중에서 활동하는 모든 분야에 응용이 가능하게 될 것이다. 예를 들면, 선박의 수리를 위한 수중작업이라든가 특히 어촌의 해녀들에게 보급된다면 물속에서의 작업시간을 단축시킬 수가 있어 보다 효과적인 수산물의 채취가 가능하게 될 것이다. 본 연구는 스쿠버다이빙 장비의 대체효과를 노릴 수 있는 새로운 수중호흡 보조장비의 디자인 개발로 우선 가격적 측면에서 경쟁력이 있고 사용성에 있어 서도 유리한 조건을 갖춘 범용성 장비의 보급을 목적으로 기술개발이 완료된 상태에서 제품의 상품화를 목적으로 디자인개발의 연구를 진행하였다.
SCUBA-diving equipment was developed and used for military purpose at first, and it was generalized wildly for leisure sports marine in European and American countries already. For SCUBA-diving was rapidly spread since 1970`s in our country, it became a field spot-lighted as leisure sports marine. However, it`s not easily accessed yet because most of the equipments are imported and the price is still high. The development purpose of the equipment is not just for leisure sports lovers. In fact, it will be possibly applied to every field for underwater activities for it can be used for many various purposes. For example, it can be used for the underwater work repairing a ship. Particularly, if it is supplied with woman divers in a fishing village, it will make more effective marine-products harvest enabled for it can make underwater working hours shortened. In this study, I arranged the progress process of design development for producing products on a commercial scale in the condition of the completion of technology development for the purpose of supply of commonly used equipment that is competitive in price and more convenient in use by developing the design of a new underwater breathing aid equipment which can acquire the substitution effect of SCUBA-diving equipment.
