최근 우리나라에서 에듀테인먼트산업에 대한 인식이 확대되면서 다양한 지원 및 육성전략이 제시되고 있다. “알록달록 크레용(Colorful crayon)”은 TV 애니메이션을 통해 5∼8세의 유아 및 초등학교 저학년 중심으로 아동들에게 간접체험과 흥미를 유발하도록 하였다. 색을 이용한 놀이 문화와 애니메이션과 팝업 북 스타일을 배경이미지를 제작, 팝업 북의 입체적 시각효과를 활용한 애니메이션 제작으로 보는 것만으로 가능한 간접 색채 교육을 위해 애니메이션에 나오는 캐릭터의 요정들과 세계관 스토리를 구축하여 다양한 요정들의 일상을 통해 색을 원리와 이해를 풀어가는 비폭력적인 이야기를 풀어 나가고 있다. 본 연구는 캐릭터의 스토리텔링이 에듀테인먼트 즉 유아 아동들에게 어떠한 여행을 미쳤는가에 대해 분석을 하고 이러한 분석을 토대로 스토리텔링의 중심의 캐릭터 활용 방안에 대해 논의해 보고자 한다. 연구방법은 다음과 같은 순서로 기술하였다. 첫째, 연구의 배경 및 범위에 관해 기술하였다. 애니메이션 캐릭터 스토리텔링의 개념과 캐릭터가 만들어지는 이야기를 구성에 대해 기술하였다. 둘째, 에듀테인먼트 콘텐츠의 개념과 유형에 대해 기술하였다. 에듀테인먼트의 다양한 분야와 콘텐츠의 변화 등을 기술하여 에듀테인먼트를 알아보았다. 셋째, TV시리즈물의 캐릭터 특징에 대하여 서술하였다. 현재 방영된 다양한 애니메이션 속 캐릭터를 분석하여 시각적 효과를 알아보았다. 넷째, 알록달록 크레용의 캐릭터를 분석하여 본 연구에서 기술한 내용을 중심으로 에듀테인먼트의 육성정책을 종합적으로 기술하고 시사점을 도출하였다.
Recently in Korea, as the public awareness of edutainment has been increasing, various supports and strategies to promote the edutainment industry are presented. The Colorful Crayons is an animated TV show for children ages 5 to 8 and in lower grades in elementary school, and is designed to arouse their interest by providing opportunities of indirect experience. This TV show has adopted not only plays and games which use various colors, but pop-up book styled 3 dimensional visual effects accompanied with picture book-type background images, as well as fairy characters which take the role of describing and demonstrating the principles of color within non-violent episodes, to ensure that children can learn about colors by just watching the show. This study is intended to analyze the storytelling edutainment provided by characters in TV shows, in other words, what effects such characters have on infant children and address the utilization of those characters focused on storytelling based on the said analysis. The research method applied for this study will be stated in the order as follows; First, the background and scope of the study are specified. The concept of storytelling by animated characters is defined and the construction of episodes in which the identity of each character is established is described. Second, the concept and types of edutainment contents are specified. Various fields of edutainment and changes of contents thereof are reviewed to address edutainment in general. Third, the characteristics and features of characters in TV series are described. Characters in animated TV shows currently on air are analyzed to examine visual effects. Fourth, the policy to promote edutainment is addressed in a comprehensive manner by analyzing characters featured in the Colorful Crayons based on the issues specified in this study, and implications thereof are discussed.
