우리나라는 그동안 축산물을 저렴하게 공급하기 위해 경제성․효율성 위주로 축산업이 발전하다 보니,폐쇄형 케이지를 사용한 산란계 사육, 모돈 스톨 사육등 집약적 축산이 일반화되었다. 그러나 가축전염병의발생과 항생제 남용 등의 문제가 발생하면서, 사육과정에서 동물이 어떻게 다루어지는지에 대해 축산물의품질 뿐만 아니라 윤리적 측면에서도 관심이 높아짐에따라 축산분야에서 동물복지의 중요성이 점차 커지고있다. 본 연구는 축산분야에서 강조하고 있는 동물복지에 대한 문제해결을 위해 디자인분야에서의 연구 필요성과 이론 및 실제적인 기초자료와 정보를 바탕으로동물복지디자인 방향제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구의 방법과 범위는 돼지를 중심으로 문헌연구,현장 행태조사를 중심으로 디자인측면에서의 문제해결방법 및 접근방향에 대해 제시하였다. 국내외 동물복지디자인 사례조사를 바탕으로 비교를 통해 시사점을제시하였고, 동물복지에 대한 소비자 만족도 조사를통해 동물복지 디자인의 가능성을 제시하였다. 본 연구에서는 동물복지디자인 개발방향을 자원기반기준의 외부 환경디자인 요소와 동물기반기준의 내부환경디자인 요소로 나누어 제시하였으며, 돈사의 현장행태영상을 바탕으로 디자인요소의 개발방안에 대한아이디어를 제시하였다. 마지막으로 동물복지디자인향상을 위한 융합연구의 가능성을 제시하였다.
As the development of livestock industry has onlyrevolved around economic feasibility and efficiencyin Korea to supply low-price goods, it has led toprevalent intensive stock raising such as egg-layinghens raised a closed cage and using modern stalls. However, issues such as livestock epidemic andabuse of antibiotics have led to rising concerns forthe breeding process from ethical standpoint, beyondthe quality of the products. Thus, the importance ofanimal welfare has been stressed at an increasinglevel in the livestock industry. This study is aimed at presenting an idealdirection on animal welfare design, based on thestudies, theories, and actual data on design to solveissues with animal welfare in the livestock industry. The method and scope of this study are asfollows: Methods and approaches to solving issueswith animal welfare is presented from the designstandpoint through a literature study and on-sitesurvey on pigs. Based on a case study on domesticand overseas animal welfare design, this studypresents the implications through comparison. Next,the potential of animal welfare design is explainedthrough a consumer satisfaction survey on animalwelfare. This study presents an ideal direction on animalwelfare development through the following elements:external environment design based on resources;internal environment design based on animals. Inaddition, this study presents ideas for developing thedesign elements, based on a video on pig treatmentin hog barns. Finally, this study explains thepotential of integrated studies aimed at improvingthe animal welfare design.
