It is time to change energy policy since there will be new oil shock. At the same time, there is also a global challenge of climate change. Every government has to change energy policy because oil price has sky-rocketed from 20 dollars in 1980s to 100 dollars since 2004. There is also an international pressure to change energy source because fossil fuel brings climate change in the process of industrialization. For these reasons, Korea has to break with conventional energy supply and demand policy. So it's necessary to assess current energy policy of Korea and suggest where the orientation is or where Korea has to aim with respect to energy policy. In this study, energy policy of Korea was assessed and its orientation was suggested from the viewpoint of ecological modernization. As a result, while energy supply policy was assessed to be in 2nd stage, energy demand policy was assessed to be in 3rd stage. So Korea has to prepare economic institution for switching to 3rd stage in supply policy and aggressive support to help current system of 3rd stage in demand policy.
