The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effect of land use characteristics of compact city -mixed land use, high density development, job-house match- on CO2 emission in 82 cities in Korea. For this purpose, multiple regression analysis was used using CO2 emission data for 82 cities in Korea as a dependent variable with population density, ratio of mixed land use, job-house ratio, city land area, park area, and waste volume as independent variables. The study result shows that population density, city land area, and waste volume have positive effect on CO2 emission while mixed land use has negative effect on CO2 emission with statistical significance. Job-house ratio and park area have negative effect on CO2 emission but without statistical significance. The study result shows that increasing population density without mixed land use can increase CO2 emission volume in city, indicating that mixed land use can be a more effective measure to reduce CO2 emission in city planning.
