본 연구의 목적은 성인 지적장애인의 자기결정 수준을 확인하고 이에 영향을 미치는 관련변인들을 살펴보는 것이다. 조사방법은 서울, 경기지역 성인 지적장애인 200명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 분석결과, 성인 지적장애인은 경제생활, 계획 및 목표설정하기, 보건영역, 교우관계, 여가생활, 직업생활, 가정생활 순으로 자기결정하는 것으로 나타났다. 경제생활, 계획 및 목표설정하기, 교우관계 영역에서 자기결정 수행 및 의사결정 선호방식에서 일치된 태도를 보이는 것으로 나타났고 자기결정 중요성 인식 또한 높게 나타났다. 교우관계, 여가생활에서 자기결정 수행과 선호간의 일치는 높지만 중요성 인식이 낮았고, 직업생활에서 자기결정 수행과 선호간의 일치가 낮지만 중요성 인식이 높았다. 반면, 가정생활은 자기결정 수행과 의사결정 선호방식 간 불일치가 크고, 자기결정 중요성 인식 또한 낮음을 알 수 있었다. 성인 지적장애인의 자기결정에 영향을 미치는 관련변인을 분석한 결과 연령과 가족지지가 통계적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이때 연령은 단순한 나이를 넘어선 경험과 기회를 의미하므로 연령에 따른 적합한 경험과 기회가 제공될 경우 성인 지적장애인의 자기결정이 향상될 것이다. 또, 가족지지가 지적 장애인의 자기결정에 영향을 미치는 요인으로 밝혀졌는데, 이는 가족이 지지적인 환경을 형성하고 지적장애인이 자기결정 할 수 있는 환경을 조성할수록 자기결정이 향상됨을 의미하는 것으로 성인 지적장애인의 자기결정을 향상시키기 위해서는 가족개입이 필요함을 시사하고 있다.
This study is to verify the level of self determination of adults with intellectual disability and to examine related variables which influence it.In research survey methods, questionnaire survey was given to two hundred adults with intellectual disability residing in Seoul and Gyeonggi. Study result showed that the factors that influenced self determination of adults with intellectual disability were in the order of economic life, set up plan and goal, health, fellowship, leisure activities, vocational life and family life. In the areas of economic life, set up plan and goal, fellowship area, performance of self determination and preferred method of decision n-making coincided and awareness of importance of self determination was high.In the areas of fellowship and leisure activities,the correlation between performance of self determination but preference was high but awareness of importance was low. In the area of vocational life, correlation between performance of self determination and preference was low but awareness of importance was high. In the area of family life, inconsistence between performance of self determination and preferred method of decision making was high and awareness of importance of self determination was low. The result of study that analyzed related variables influencing self determination of adults with intellectual disability that age and family support had statistically significant influence. In this case, as age means experience and opportunity beyond simple age, if suitable experience and opportunity are provided, self determination of adults with intellectual disability will be improved. In addition, it was found that family support influenced self determination of person with intellectual disability and it means that support of family is necessary to improve self determination of adults with intellectual disability as when family forms supportive environment in which person with intellectual disability can make self determination, self determination will be improved.
