The purpose of this study is to investigate the prosodic characteristics of Koreans' English phrasal stress pattern. Twenty-two female Korean speakers (eleven each for Korean English instructors and Korean students) and eleven female native English speakers participate in an acoustic experiment. The acoustic parameters of fundamental frequency, amplitude, and duration are examined for this study. To this end, it employs the Praat 4.0, sound effect analysis program and SpSS 12. Eight phrases from five sentences are selected as the experimental material. The data reveal that Korean English instructors and native English speakers use pitch and intensity together on the same syllable most to make the phrasal stress syllables prominent. On the other hand, Korean students make use of duration more often than any other groups. Furthermore, several evidences suggest that there is not as much pitch change in Korean subjects as that of native speakers with regard to the phrasal stresses.
